I do find that the (admittedly silly) name dihydrogen monoxide is better for teaching low-level chemistry, but oxidane I would never teach to anyone who isn't a Chemistry major, as its use is primarily for naming OTHER molecules.
Also, water just has too many names, period, and not all are useful.
