iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I grew up poor and rural and didn’t have a lot of access to books. You know what i did? Went to the library and checked out 30+ books at a time. Borrowed books from friends and neighbors. Reread all of my favorites. Got a job so I could start buying books on my own.

What’s the most devastating book you’ve read all year and with is it Sunrise on the Reaping?

I feel better about my knowledge of commas and worse about my knowledge of hyphens after copyedits

I have a little bit of happy book news! The Traitor of Sherwood Forest received a ⭐ starred review ⭐ from Library Journal! www.libraryjournal.com/review/the-t...

Quote from a starred review of the Traitor of Sherwood Forest: "The right amount of historical background and subtle inclusion of period-appropriate combat combine to make this action-adventure story a unique exploration of human relationships and growth." --Library Journal

At this point I'm just going to assume you're a bad person if you use genAI.

Not a single person sees my posts here, but at least bluesky isn't using stolen work to build generative AI. It's a good day to scream into the void!

“People who go to college don’t use their degrees.” I have a BA in music and an MFA in creative writing and I sold my Phantom of the Opera retelling SING THE NIGHT with a music-based magic system in a two-book deal and it comes out this fall 💅

I am deep into edits for SING THE NIGHT and wildly considering covering my posts with Taylor Swift easter eggs. But I’m an adult and instead I’ll fold myself back into work. Add on goodreads and follow for exciting bookish updates…some of which might be sneakily layered into this post. #booksky

I have edited for almost ten hours today and I will probably edit for another four. I have only taken breaks for snacks, a meeting, and stretches. I am full gargoyle today.

I put so much energy into building a community on tiktok and all of that is in flux so now I feel like I shouldn’t try to build anything anywhere.

I just made this sequel my bitch (but I fear it will get me back in edits)

So deep into editing that I didn’t realize an ANT HAD CRAWLED INTO MY MOUTH. This is the kind of focus you should expect from me, folks

Authors, if you see this, it’s a sign to post the first line of your book. “Selene took a half-step onto the stage, the staccato articulation of her heart a sharp reminder of what was to come.” —Sing the Night

All I’m saying is that the white women on TikTok crying about not getting the target special edition of Onyx storm also look like they probably would’ve bullied me in high school for reading books, fanfic, and for just being in fandoms #booksky

‘The Writer’s Dog’ - My cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com books

Title: The Writer's Dog

A writer commands his obedient dog to undertake some tricks:

Sit!

Shake hands!

Play dead!

Give feedback on my latest draft, and be brutally, honest, unless you hate it, in which case, be diplomatic!

It’s really fun when you think you have enough distance from trauma to be okay, only to find yourself shaking uncontrollably while loading your kids up to escape the possibility of fire and panicking at the smell of smoke and suddenly you’re sifting through the ashes of your life again and not okay
