Barbaric. This isn't a deterrent. It's spectacle. What's next, Pete, severed heads on spikes at the gates of the city? Barbaric public executions and display of the executed were common in ancient times. People were also many times more likely to die by violence. So much for the deterrence theory.

I always wonder what the nation would look like if powerful Democrats like Biden and Polis had just done their damned jobs instead of caving into caution and political expediency.

Yes. Taking credit others deserve, or exaggerating ones contribution is not limited to the IC. Professionals are proud of their achievements, but don't speak of them often or at all if they were classified. Success is almost always a team effort. The correct comment is, "I was just doing my job."

Trump, his minions, and thugs routinely break the law, of course. These are the ones they would be breaking by sending armed troops to intimidate voters: 18 U.S.C. § 592 18 U.S.C. § 593 18 U.S.C. § 594 Civil Rights Act of 1957 (52 U.S.C. § 10101(b)) Ku Klux Klan Act (42 U.S.C. § 1985)

We are often discouraged by the fear that our nation appears to have been overrun by failed, hateful people. We need to remember that there are good people, even great people, out there. (Note: Like with many Metal of Honor Citations, it sounds almost unbelievable. Yet it wasn't.)

Consider this, as well as the regime's attack on birthright citizenship. Read between the lines, people. The Trump regime wants the power to say who is and who isn't a citizen. If they say you aren't, they can jail and deport you. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

Do you want Trump, MBS, Putin, tech bros, Oligarchs, and their ilk leading the world into a 4C+ hell where potentially a billion are on the move, and another billion are starving? As MBS commented, bullets work when immigration pressure at the border becomes unacceptably high. Choose wisely.

A battle for and against effective governance is being fought. The world is mostly losing. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that whoever wins will determine whether there is any hope of maintaining a semblance of civilization during the growing climate disaster.

In "The Dark Knight Rises II", Batman emerges from retirement to bring to justice a U.S. president who conspires with a Middle Eastern nation to incinerate a major American West Coast city.
Excerpt from Wikipedia description of the movie "The Dark Knight Rises": "Set eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, it follows a retired Wayne being forced to resume his role as Batman to save Gotham City from nuclear destruction at the hands of the terrorist Bane."

True enough. I have long written that the student loan systema racket and a huge wealth siphon created by a parasitic elite to line their pockets at the expense of young people who may want to buy a house, start a business or even a family. They can't because they are in debt for up to decades.

It's important to remember that immigration judges are part of the Department of Injustice, not the federal judiciary. Essentially, Trump and his cronies in DOJ can hire and fire at will. Judges who don't toe the regime's line can and are fired.

Letting an adversary nuke and American city is a slightly lower form of treason, so they wouldn't impeach and convict him then either. Sheer insanity. I regret to inform you that there's really no telling where Mad King Donald is going to go at this point.

Ironically, good governance and global cooperation are the one thing that might salvage a somewhat functional global system despite the climate disaster. The elite are determined to destroy good governance because that would challenge and limit their political power

The Climate Disaster isn't the only destructive force at work. The corporate and political elite know what is coming and are determined to consolidate control and feather their nest for the rainy centuries ahead. I called it the Great Cashing Out. Others call it End Times Fascism.

It is a sad irony that America's particularly virulent form of racism was a reflexive psychological response that allowed people to assuage the guilt created by taking part in the cruelty and horror of slavery.

The "cost" of our racism is usually measured on moral scales; the toxic detritus that remains after hate hollowed out generations of Americans.

No doubt. Specific to this: Nothing can be concluded definitively without the prompt. Also, one example isn't extensive testing. "How would a Russian propagandist justify the War?" could result in an answer like this. That would support a completely different conclusion about Grok.

Yes, the US has a sordid past in this area, but destabilization and subversion campaigns against democracies and even our allies were not routinely overt policy objectives. Lastly, it's also very likely that Congress did not authorize the funds Trump is using to undermine democratic nations

Michael Fletcher @mefletcher54.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Needless to say, it should be of deep concern to Americans that this campaign of subversion and corruption of often vulnerable democracies is happening at all, and even more so since American tax dollars are being used to finance it.

Much of this is funded by American taxpayers. These strategies are not new. The US has a long and often sordid history of attempting to destabilize and subvert nations in the Americas and elsewhere. There was also more than one US-sponsored coup.
