Today is National Beer Day, commemorating the legalization of beer in 1933. I can think of no better movie to watch than A Slight Case of Murder with Edward G Robinson as a teetotaler ex-bootlegger turned legit brewer with a whole heap of problems.

Happy birthday Ernst Lubitsch! His body of work is much larger than his tragically short life would suggest possible. An inspiration.

Anyone got any guesses for what movie I'm gonna see tonight?
January 13th at the Oriental Theatre:

Tell No One: It's a secret cult film screening (subtitled)

Tagged cult and DCP, rated NC-17, 90 minutes longDescription
Never before seen on a screen at the Oriental Theatre, and unlikely ever to screen again, this crime drama IS likely to offend your sensibilities. Words used to describe this film include violent, surreal, degenerate, moody, enigmatic, blurry, and mad. Parents: do NOT bring your kids. Kids: do NOT bring your parents. (Actually, kids, you can’t see this anyway, because it’s rated NC-17.) Content warnings: sexual assault, sex and nudity, violence, guns, profanity

I had a fun time at the movies last night
First theatrical screening for me, and unfortunately one of my most bizarre theater experiences. Around an hour and ten minutes in it abruptly paused, the lights came on, and we were all asked to leave while staff cleaned up an "accident." I later learned someone far away from me apparently vomited a great deal. Don't go to movies if you're sick folks.

All that aside, it's a terrific movie and I was really struck by how perfectly paced and edited it is on this watch. It never once feels vignette-y or slow. Perfect cast too.
