My instance (and my blog, etc) will be going offline tomorrow as I disassemble my servers to relocate them. Here's hoping everything comes back online afterwards!

I don't know enough about how Lemmy works to offer any sort of helpful feedback, but if I view a post from Lemmy.radio, it shows 0 comments, while viewing the same post from another instance shows all the […]

@litchralee_v6 Definitely a drawback. I lost my old GPG key a while back, and had I actually been using it for anything at the time, it would have meant gaining trust for an entirely new "identity." The same is true for #TOR and #I2P if I were to ever lose control of those keys. This presents […]

Addressing the unauthorized issuance of multiple TLS certificates for 1.1.1.1
Unauthorized TLS certificates were issued for 1.1.1.1 by a Certification Authority without permission from Cloudflare. These rogue certificates have now been revoked. Read our blog to see how this could affect you.

@litchralee_v6 That's very fair. For context, though, my thought process was more from a TOFU perspective. That is, a perceived known (trusted) site that could be later compromised. For example, say that I've decided to trust example.com. I bookmarked the address and so I assume that as long as […]

@litchralee_v6 good points. I think your TOR example is more akin to typosquatting, though. You are not hijacking or intercepting a known TOR domain, you are tricking a user into connecting to an entirely different address. With TLS, on the other hand, a CA could issue an illegitimate […]

University system just told me I needed to update my "Security Questions" and wouldn't let me finish logging in until I did. Really? Security Questions? I feel like I'm back in the 2000s. And literally all the question options are based on information of public record. So dumb.

What happened to all the cool 5.25 bay accessories? I there used to be VU meters, speakers, cup holders, displays, even cigar lighters... Now the most exciting options are some SSD bays or maybe a couple fan controllers. I want computers to be fun again!

It's such a weird hobby. I own a dozen radios, I listen to ham radio podcasts, I follow ham radio blogs, I host ham radio related websites, and I ramble to coworkers and colleagues about the absolute **magic** that is ham radio... ...All while averaging less than 100 QSOs a year, myself.

Stats on modes. Despite trying to make AM contacts a number of times, I've never succeeded in making a AM qso. Digi is mostly FT8, with a smattering of digital voice, PSK31, and JS8 thrown in.

I swapped out the curved monitor that I had been using for a few years for a flat one, but I guess my eyes had gotten used to the curved display, because now the flat one looks like the middle is bulging out at me. Very strange illusion.

Well, it looks like the update wasn't without _some_ victims. #Hugo seems to have stopped working since updating Fedora, so I can't create any new blog posts for the time being. It seems to be a panic caused by Hugo's image renderer, but I'm not savvy enough to make out much beyond that. :-(

After more tinkering, it's getting returned. The threads on the PL259 are so loose that it it can actually slip on-and-off the connector without twisting. That lack of connection might be part of what was causing issues. The PL259 is integral, so it can't be easily replaced.

New #antenna was delivered late yesterday. It's in the style of an mfj 1899t, with a telescoping vertical element and a loading coil with a jumper. It sort of works. It's nearly impossible to get a reasonable SWR on by following the instructions, but I can get it kind of close and then finish […]

@PurpleJillybeans Does it? I thought standard upgrade was just for minor application upgrades, while dist-upgrade (alias for full-upgrade) was required for major versions and kernel upgrades. TIL, I guess.
