GDAL /vsistdout is pretty dope gdal raster as-features --of GeoJSON --include-xy --include-row-col autotest/gcore/data/byte.tif /vsistdout/
bash shell output of pixel info from a test tiff, in the form of a feature collection {

the gallery of real-world online Zarr stores {zaro} now tests against (via gha) zaro needs your feedback, this is a #Zarr engine in R using #Arrow for the heavy lifting (IKR!, main player is arrow::S3FileSystem) #RStats github.com/hypertidy/zaro

just ran a Sentinel 2 query for every 100k grid square for March this year and pulled out unique instances there are 28696 unique grid codes

I've definitely made this plot before but not realized why *I should* UTM zone 55S with 0-level MGRS tiles
a map of eastern Australia and Antarctica from the equator to ~80S, the UTM zone 55 S is decorated with the Military Grid (MGRS) level 0 tiles, a columnnar spread(y)sheet with an expanding base as you go south (each tile distorts horizontally to the east and west)

Found my old reading list, it extremely interesting and helpful to me. Wish I'd maintained it ... but restoring this into a partial list is going to help, a bit Was actively keeping it 1997-2000, and there's helpful notes of earlier years and some of what was going on (where I was etc)
A list of books read from a printed out word document, author, title, date finished

fun with hillshade (of COP30 and ESRI imagery)
side by side aerial views of Obercorn, the left is straight ESRI world imagery, the right is hillshaded, a 10x10km region

still using buildvrt? no need (since GDAL 3.11), template in your sources as a comma-separated list and then this json description can be opened by any GDAL-enabled tool
R code, simple json for the GDAL streamed algorithm with a %s template for a comma-sep list of raster sources (to be stacked up as individual bands)

not so bad across the suite of 3 (the palletized version only takes the last layer it seems) - I intend to make a bucket with this mean(, na.rm) version is that of interest?

or, a more permanent problem now? I see better coverage with the mean of the netcdf layers (second image)

Emperor penguins! (no context, this is somewhere, some time ... still working on the output) all using #rstats {targets} and {gdalraster} and {mirai}
a 3x3km scene in Antarctica, targeting known locations for Emperor penguin colonies. there's ice scape features and a small brown stain in the middle, Sentinel 2 imagery at 2m scale

ha!
a google earth image of Macquarie Island, oriented with south pointing to the bottom left, there's a region ~2 hundred km around the island and a pink line coming to the isthmus from the northeast, the recent track of the Nuyina icebreaker

mdsumner @mdsumner.bsky.social · 15/05/2025
it looks like the yellow bad-data gap is pointing where the Nuyina needed to go
a polar map highlighting current sea ice extent (white to blue shade) on dark blue ocean around Antarctica, with continent in solid grey, there's a pink line showing recent weeks of the Nuyina icebreaker from Denman glacier, to Hobart, to Burnie, to Hobart, then back out to Macquarie Island. There are yellow "gaps" in the near-real-time data, not yet quality-controlled that don't entirely destroy the information in the picture, and one looks like an arrow along the voyage path. The sea ice data extent ends with the blue, not reaching Tasmania or New Zealand, outside of that is coastline outline in grey on black background.
