mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 07/10/2026This reminds me of when NPR tweeted out the whole thing line by line on July 4th and people--who didn't realize what it was--were up in arms. 052

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I work as a software developer, sure you can use AI to help you, but your name is still on the commit. You can't blame the AI for shoddy work and you will be held accountable to what you push. It is still your code, full stop. 010

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 01/09/2026And you need to root it out in a way that isn't exploitable in 4 years. Ruining the apolitical nature of so much of the daily running of our government is an absolute disaster. The CDC shouldn't be controlled by a political ideology. Disaster relief shouldn't depend on whom a state voted for! WTAF? 120
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 01/09/2026Just like cyber security, the weakness is always the people. It has been since the dawn of civilization. People being inept, lazy, lax, short sighted and also nefarious. 030
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 01/09/2026The problem with any of these controls, checks, balances, etc, is that they still depend on people executing them. We have at least 2 things that could help us here, the 25th amendment and congress could impeach and remove him. The people in the position to do that though don't want to. 330

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 09/07/2026I remember in the 2000's having to deal with Java programmers writing C++ code. You could always tell. My biggest problem with perl was people tend to use their own subset/style and it could be pretty different due to the philosophy of theres more than one way to do it. 210
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 29/06/2026This is why c++ is nice... I'll be glad when we can use all the C++20 features. 010
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 27/06/2026This is one of the things I hate so much about the current US administration. They are cutting and politicizing basic research that absolutely has to be publicly funded because it doesn't make economic sense for businesses to do. It was one of our competitive advantages that is being squandered.to.be 010

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 09/06/2026I've totally intentionally written bad tests just so I can seem them fail. mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Legit question, I agree they and other constant surveillance tech are a problem. How do we regulate them? Which features are a problem? For example, should I be allowed to have an always on camera on my car or bike? What can I do with that data? How about my home/doorbell? Can it be subpoenad? 100
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Ugh, I've definitely seen this argument and it sucks because it implies we're already doing everything as good as possible and that there should be no change. Just because people did as good as they could with the time, resources and knowledge doesn't mean its the best. Everything as constraints. 020
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 05/06/2026Related but similar, there also is a risk aversion to change. People see the current thing as working to some degree and fear that a change will make it worse. Kind of a Devil You Know argument. That said, they usually don't argue its good or normal, merely that its tolerable. 010
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 13/05/2026Wtf? We're going to poll the internet trolls they use to train the llm on? That seems a poor idea. 010

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 04/05/2026We need to teach them how to figure out the truth from the bullshit. It needs to be applied to the results from AI, news, advertising, politicians, wikipedia, etc. Trust but verify (or in many cases, be skeptical until further proof is found). I.e. critical thinking ;) 000
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 04/05/2026That would be amazing. I've not hear of that in the U.S. for sure. 010
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 04/05/2026For sure. I've read about this in other industries like script writing. It's interesting question of whose job it is to raise the next generation because for an individual firm it doesn't necessarily make economic sense to do it. Bigger firms can have a pipeline because they will nab some of them. 110
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 04/05/2026One thing it does give the Sr. is flexibility to try out a number of ideas rapidly. When code is cheap, you don't mind trying several options and throwing away most of it. Don't underestimate the power of rapid prototyping with a llm. 110
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 04/05/2026I do really worry about this too. There's so much you have to learn to be an effective developer just on the tech side let alone the design and the people side. The only way they can learn it is though experience and really someone has to basically "pay" for that. 131

mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 25/04/2026There are massive unintended consequences of these laws where companies will wholesale completely stop moderation or massively overdue it due to legal risks. Either way, the average consumer loses out. 010
mdprice 🫘 @mdprice.bsky.social · 25/04/2026This reminds me of the arguments around section 230 in the US. We had a problem where companies that were trying remove bad material were being sued because they inevitably missed some. Whereas the companies that didn't do anything were fine because they weren't trying to have a safe place. 120
