Honestly so much of my TTRPG design knowledge comes from video games and wargames. Especially when it comes to tension building and cycles of play, those did so much to get me to look at even something like an OSR-styled dungeon crawler differently.

Watched a few episodes of The Creep Tapes last night with some friends. I've seen the first film also, and something I am constantly struck by watching them, is how Mark Duplass is utterly and completely without shame. Commits to a bit so far that it turns camp into something grounded and real.

I am gonna cheat and have a two-fer here: One of my earliest memories is playing some version of Street Fighter 2 in an arcade with my sister, and her whooping my ass with Chun Li until I figured out how to do a fireball with Ryu. Baldur's Gate 2 however, that game locked me in for good.

It's been something stuck in my craw that between TWW3, the Vermintide games, WHFRP 4e, etc, all being huge successes as I understand, that they keep insisting upon The End Times as inevitable, especially when both can exist without being fed into/by one another. They've retconned stuff before.

Focus less on lore, focus more on what you're trying to say. Campaign, homebrew world, or story, having a solid theme/something you want to say is going to do way more for your setting, characters, and NPCs than mountains of lore.

Saw Andy Williams wrestle in AEW live as the Butcher, and obviously via TV throughout his tenure. As good as he looked on screen, in person his work looked so much better and could be felt in the crowd. Dude just had it all and was always a favorite to see. Terrible that he's gone.

Also I've seen a lot of folks act like 4e is brand spanking new, not only almost a decade old, but one of the main criticisms on release was that the book's layout was pretty, but quite poor at onboarding new players. I feel like this solves most of that issue. So, let's get serious.

That said, I'm excited to run it! I'll have to wait until my 4e campaign finishes since making all these little changes to the formula this far in would be ridiculous, especially since we use a VTT for the game, but I found myself wanting to run the game more and more the further I read.

It'll be interesting to see how this lands with the game's wider community. I honestly appreciate most of the streamlining and changes, but I can see how folks might chafe with it. Edition wars are nothing new, but with how 4e revitalized things so well this is probably going to be polarizing.

Read through Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5e's pdf earlier today. Lot of good stuff, lot of interesting stuff. Lessons learned from various supplements are folded in or iterated upon, as well as some stuff from Imperium Maledictum. I do think 5e is a misnomer, and that it's really more a 4.5 overall.
