Hey y'all! If you're going to wear any of the FFXIV Korean outfits, please refrain from wearing these gear pieces with them! The Taisho era and their clothes are a very sensitive topic for Koreans so it would be greatly appreciated if these weren't paired with the Korean outfits!

A 600+ word drabble I wrote for my personal server's weekly writing challenge! 7.1 spoilers warning in text! #rifrastinien #wolstinien #ramywrites #ramypose

Estinien and Rifra cuddle in the For'ard Cabins inn room, the moonlight shining down on them.

"Estinien... Hey, Estinien... Estinien!"

The elezen awoke from his slumber with a gasp, eyes adjusting to the light of the moon gently bathing the For'ard Cabin room. He quickly scanned the vicinity, taking a moment to process his whereabouts before his gaze fell on a viera lying beside him with a concerned expression on her face, her hand retreating after shaking him awake.

"Rifra...?" He mumbled groggily, adjusting his position to see her better. "What-"

"You were mumbling in your sleep again."

Again. Estinien let out a sigh, sinking his head onto his pillow even further. "... Apologies. I hope I didn't wake you."

To his relief and surprise, his lover shook his head with a weary smile. "I was already awake."

"Were you now?"

"Yeah. Same reason why I woke you up, at least that's what I'm assuming."

Rifra took a moment to ilm herself closer to him, tucking herself into his space as he slipped his arms around her. "I find it interesting that I woke up before you this time, though. Usually it's the other way around."

A chuckle left his throat, the quiet sounds of each other's breathing filling the silence between them afterwards.

"Was it Nidhogg again?"

"Aye. A stubborn wyrm, that one. Refuses to let me go summers later."

An amused huff. "Like a clingy past lover. Looks like I have tough competition."

"Rifra,"

"You were one with him! In other instances that could be considered an act between lovers."

"I'm not amused." The exasperated tone in his voice, however, betrayed his words. "In any case, what stirred you in your sleep?"

A pause. "... I saw myself."

"Yourself?" Estinien pulled back ilms away from her face, gazing at her features. The viera's eyes had become wearier ever since her return from the First, the usually vibrant green lacking their usual fire in the shadow of the night. Ever since a certain recent expedition in the domed area of Heritage Found, however, they seemed worse for wear.

"Except..." Rifra hesitated for a moment, trying to gather her words. "You could barely call it me. I was monstrous, a giant beast, without any humanity left. I saw something similar when Wuk Lamat and I went to Yuweyawata, a tural vidraal that was sealed away until we vanquished it. There were notes at the laboratory from researchers that studied it, and they said that the tural vidraal was originally a shetona who succumbed to an insatiable, carnal rage."

A chill went through Estinien's spine as he immediately understood what she was implying, bringing her closer into his embrace.

"Estinien..." the viera's voice faltered as her hands tightened around his body, holding him close. "You and I... Are we doomed to become monsters?"

The elezen didn't know what to say that could reassure her — he could only become more aware of the draconic scales that peppered across his skin, remnants of a dragon long gone. He held her tightly in his arms, breathing in her scent, its constant hints of pine grounding him as they always did.

"Monster or not," he muttered, his hand moving to gently caress Rifra's ashen hair. "I will stay by your side as you would for me."

"... Can you promise me something?"

"And what would that be?"

"... If I'm too far gone, please kill me."

His heart sank at the request — it was something that had crossed his mind for himself, something he even requested her to do summers ago when he was still under Nidhogg's control, but he didn't want to consider it for Rifra at all. Even though she and Alphinaud were able to save him, there was no guarantee the same could be done for her.

"Please," she continued, her voice becoming quieter. "You're the only one I can ask for this."

Despite everything, he couldn't say no.

"... Only if there is no possible way to save you."

"Promise?"

"Promise. If you would do the same for me."

"... I promise, too."
