Saw Hugh Jackman surprise duet with Sutton Foster tonight at the season opener at The Soraya tonight. The woman in front of me quickly checked her phone to see for sure that’s who it was. I got a tip there “might” be a surprise guest so I was glad I had a ticket.

Today, September 10, is the 9th anniversary of Len Wein’s death. It is gratifying to me to see that many fans and friends have kindly noted the day with good stories. Len would have preferred to live on in our house, but it is nice that he lives on in his work.

Oh, such sad news for the horse world. I visited his ranch twice, once with a large group from LA Pierce College, so I got to meet him and watch him do a demonstration. I have photos somewhere, but the memory of watching Monte gentle a horse is what is important. RIP Monte Roberts.

$75/night to park my car in the hotel I’m paying around $500/night with fees to stay is an outrage. I do prefer the train to San Diego, which was not an option this year. So sad to read Sam Neill has died. My favorite film of his is The Dish, a delightful movie about Australia’s part in Apollo 11. We saw it at a film festival for distribution rights before it was released. He was a wonderful actor and I loved his social media posts about his farm and animals.

I’m using my Instant Pot Rio for only the third or fourth time. It has a wider cooking surface than my first generation Instant Pot duo (a gift from my spouse that gave up the ghost—broken handles—a while ago) and the control panel is NOT intuitive. But it seems to be working tonight. Smells good.

Long-ago friends of mine were driving their van w/U-Haul west thru Yellowstone and a buffalo they had seen far off in a field shortly before ran into them around a corner, leaving a body print on the side of the Dodge 1000. I always think of a hypothetical conversation with insurance about that.
