A few weeks ago I picked up a pencil to draw for the first time in 20 years. Then I put it down and picked up a drawing tablet. I've never been very good with them, so to practice I draw one monster from the 2e DnD monster manual for 30 minutes every morning. Here's a Deepspawn.

Every day I draw a monster from the 2e DnD monster manual. I didn't want to just draw dragons for weeks straight, so I just drew a Black Dragon to represent them all. Can't say why I chose this guy. Maybe he seemed achievable in the 20-30 minutes I give myself?

Over the last month or so I've been trying to use the 2e DnD Monster Manual as a reference to learn how to use a drawing tablet after 20+ years of not so much as doodling. I spend 20-30 minutes each morning in Krita as a daily exercise. Here are four drawing to showcase my progression.

Ankheg. 2d line art. No color or shading. From week 1.

Beholder-kin. Six of them, in different colors, in a more cartoony style. Some efforts at shading made. Line art is uneven. From week 2.

Bulette. From week 3. You can see that I started to rush when I got to the feet because the shading and highlights are taking more and more time, and I want to stick within the 30-minute limit.

Deepspawn. From week 5. I've started using cell-shading techniques, but this is still taking too much time. I may have to simplify even further.
