These are reasonable things to ask, but: (1) if Democrats don't have a majority unless you count Fettermans that won't vote with the party, don't blame the rest; (2) if Democrats vote for good policies but then Trump won't sign the bills and SCOTUS lets him be king, don't blame the Democrats.

First of all, I strongly believe that once the sane people regain control of the government, the US should make permanent structural changes to prevent this from ever happening again. I mean new Constitutional amendments. But even if we do so, I think other countries should still hedge.

I think you misspelled "Trumpisalooser".

Donald Trump promised the nation he would "drain the swamp" of corruption. Instead he swamped us with corruption, sending the nation down the drain.

You are misunderstanding the precedent. The precedent here is that *Republican* Presidents can level buildings at will. It obviously doesn't apply to *Democratic* Presidents.

"Parasocial" interactions (where one person is posting and others are reading it) are indeed, a very strange and unbalanced form of social interaction.

That is because the vision set 250 years ago of a country without monarchs has died. Some of us hope to resurrect it.

Just remember: when the government decides to pursue felony assault charges against these kids for using squirt guns and you find yourself on a grand jury... remember that the grand jury's reason for existence is to prevent prosecutions that are miscarriages of justice.

That is interesting to hear. Can you point me to one or more of your sources? A study or a researcher comparing permanent standard time to permanent daylight time? Thank you!

In my psychology class we took the Myers-Briggs test and they passed out the results the next day. We had to not share our results then state how well we thought it fit (75%+ good fit). THEN they admitted that they gave the same fake "results" to every person; they gave the real ones after.

I am sure you were targeted for political reasons, but ALSO you were treated far BETTER than most families would have been because of the political sensitivity of the situation. Please help to campaign for changes to public policy on CPS investigations of this sort.

Michael Chermside @mcherm.com · 27/06/2026
Similarly, CPS should investigate allegations, but it is TERRIBLE public policy for CPS to demand things like separation of children and their parents while investigations are underway in cases where the investigation is based on a single anonymous report.

Both this and SWATing depend heavily on poor government policies. If police responding to a report of violence were cautious but NOT inclined to break down doors and shoot pets and people, then SWATing would not be much of a danger.

But it IS technically true. The current President has engaged in behavior that was far more egregious than planting bugs and using the machinery of government to cover it up, and some of those behaviors have been eclipsed in the news cycle after 48 hours.

This is a thoughtful piece, but I can't help noticing that the author manages to come down EXACTLY along party lines. PERHAPS this is because the members of one party are incapable of admitting to ever having been wrong, but maybe it is deluding oneself that friends are good and enemies evil.

But it's not true. Previously, the President was constrained in many ways by laws (eg: can't fire many officials without a reason). It is only now, with THIS President that the Supreme Court has decided that the President is above the law.

Like the Supreme Court declaring that the right of parties to do political gerrymandering Trump's the rights of voters to avoid racial discrimination, in a shadow docket order they didn't even sign, issued after voting already started. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Maintaining their own list of who is allowed to vote and who isn't is the single most anti-democratic thing I have heard of, and I have heard of a LOT lately.

I had not heard this before -- WHY had I not heard about it before? The Trump regime has issued orders to the postal service to deliver mail-in-ballots only to voters on a list the regime creates. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Think of it from Canada's point of view: as disturbing and unwelcome as that sentiment may be, he is at least conveying the official position of the United States administration on the matter.

But what if they tell the jurors to indict based on evidence they haven't seen, remove all the jurors who seem inclined not to indict, and just change the paperwork after the grand jury finishes? [Actual example, not made up.]

Completely made up news would be if I reported that what Trump *actually* owed on his taxes was $1.776 billion, which is why they picked that amount for the illegal slush fund.

Michael Chermside @mcherm.com · 21/05/2026
Those are pretty terrible. The thing Trump has taught America that I am most upset about is that he has taught us that "democracy" (letting the voters decide who leads) and rule of law aren't important. It's been 250 years and few other major leaders have delivered THAT message.

Great question, but ALSO, despite what Trump and the IRS say, it is *not* a settlement. Read what the judge wrote when dismissing the case: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I want a law firm to file a class action lawsuit against the IRS objecting to their announcement of a $1.7B fund not authorized by Congress. Let every taxpayer who wishes to sign up as a named plaintiff. It would be almost all of us.

Ok, plan B: the Democrats wait until the first nominations are 75% of the way through, then go public saying that instead we should have Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr in those seats. Hopefully the prez would self-destruct enough to withdraw the nominations.

He and I remained friends and after he moved to a different company we kept in touch. I did manage to move to an architect role and did that for many years. I wonder sometimes if I handled it the right way. At least I know that is my "style" for handling conflicts.

What happened after? Well I could have broken off all friendship with this person, but I decided instead to pretend I had never found out it was him. I worked for years on trying to improve how I came across in terms of listening to others (still not perfect).

Michael Chermside @mcherm.com · 14/04/2026
Eventually I discovered that a particular person on the architecture team -- someone I was friends with -- had been strongly objecting to my getting that role. He thought I would be unwilling to listen to others and wouldn't be a good fit.

I'll leave the names out. I was working at a job in one role (tech lead) and I wanted to move to a different role (architect). I applied a few times and kept getting turned down for a year or two.
