The free world needs to support @gavinnewsom.bsky.social he’s the democrats best hope of fighting the new fascist regime in America and the only person willing to stick their head above the parapet and give as good as they get. I can’t believe I had to type that, what has happened with America?

49.8% of what used to be normal sane Americans voted for a madman. Now unless a miracle happens - and I doubt it - America is no longer the leader of the free world. The damage is irreparable, the world needs leaders, not fruitcakes. Even if he was ousted tomorrow, the trust is gone. I despair.

"President Trump will never allow mob rule to prevail in America," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a briefing. "The most basic duty of government is to preserve law and order, and this administration embraces that sacred responsibility," she added. Is she for real?

BTW we do buy American cars, we buy Ford and Tesla. General Motors owns Opel/Vauxhall. They are built in Europe for one simple reason and forgive me for this but the steering wheel is on the right in IRL, UK and Japan. USA does not built RHD cars and never will.

25% tariffs on Europe? Ireland is part of Europe. So Kerrygold butter (and I’ve no idea what you pay for it but let’s use $4 as a round figure) will now be $5 and Land o’Lakes $4. Do you buy butter based on price or taste?

Law of Ukraine “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” (2015) prohibits the holding of elections during martial law and the Electoral Code of Ukraine (2019) ordains suspension of all elections during such period. Trump would love to have the same protection but as quoted they still hold elections.

000

McGerry @mcgerry.bsky.social · 19/02/2025

I’m gonna predict this right now. I believe the Trump administration will pardon Ghislaine Maxwell but not before they tap the UK royal family for a “disbursement”. She knows where “all the bodies are buried”

Coincidentally that is how the House of Saud runs Saudi Arabia. I despair that what used to be the United States of America whom the free world could rely on to be the bastions of democracy is now totally untrustworthy. Even if democracy was restored tomorrow, the trust has been broken.

The key issue remains: How can the international community ensure that Gaza is a place where its people can live safely, with self-determination and basic human rights, rather than being treated as a humanitarian problem to be outsourced elsewhere?

000

McGerry @mcgerry.bsky.social · 07/02/2025

Forcing Palestinians into exile to accommodate geopolitical interests is neither just nor sustainable. Many Gazans made it clear that they want to live freely and with dignity in their own land. International solidarity is important but it cannot replace the fundamental right to remain or return.

McGerry @mcgerry.bsky.social · 07/02/2025

Reply from Chat GPT. You’re highlighting a critical aspect of the situation: the right of displaced people to return to their homeland. The forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza—whether through direct military actions, blockades, or economic pressures—raises profound legal & moral questions.

000

McGerry @mcgerry.bsky.social · 07/02/2025

Here’s a novel idea. The people of Gaza would like to return and live in their homeland of Gaza. Not Dublin, Oslo or Madrid. They are welcome by all means in all three if they so desire but we will not be forced to take them to appease an illegal operation. #GazaforGazans

Here’s the thing, the man doesn’t understand tariffs. I sell you a pound of Kerrygold butter for $1. The Trump tariff adds 25c to that. You buy it for $1.25 instead of $1 so who pays? If you don’t buy it and it spoils then I write it off against tax. Who’s out of pocket?
