Laughed so hard at this when I first saw it, I shed tears. Certain members of my family sat around me, mouths agape, fear in their eyes. I refused offers to attend any kind of summer camp, in my youth-period.

Didn't know it was a box office flop, but... it wouldn't have mattered, I loved it (love it). I had friends who were (white magic) witches. Only regret, that I wasn't the one to write that great story.

Travels With Charley was my very first Steinbeck experience. At 11 (1 year before I decided to become a writer) stole my older sisters copy and read it in the closet with a flashlight so she wouldnt wrest it back before I had finished it. 😊

Read that book (and Sweet Thursday) loved it so much! The movie was great, so well done. As an author, I was so saddened by the fact that only occasionally did anybody ever bring up Steinbeck in class or workshop, when there were so many excellent books, by Steinbeck, to be read and discussed. 💙
