Shocked by the Wildcat-on-Wildcat crime here
Tough going from Peyton Manning to Trevor Siemian.

I nerd-sniped myself with this. I think he’s already at 32 days in MiLB, and would need 42 total for an extra year of control (not 39). If he comes back up in 10 days, we’ll have some pretty compelling evidence of the Cubs motives. Hopefully Thielbar doesn’t cost us any games in the meantime!
A list of Latest Transactions for Javier Assad. He’s been optioned to the minors 3 times this year: once for 12 days, once for 20 days, and again today.

I wonder if they’re gaming Assad’s service time. He had 3 years 27 days coming into the season, so if he spends 39ish (?) days in the minors, they squeeze out an extra year of team control.

Caratini had an OPS of .661 and was used as DH 18 times in a 60 game season. Find someone who loves you the way David Ross loved overusing backup catchers.

Jason Heyward with the Cubs. Looks like he opted in to 5 years/$106M, and put up 3.7 bWAR. sports.yahoo.com/jason-heywar...

Did I semi-obsessively check the “SB” line on Yankees box scores the last two weeks of the season? Who’s to say…

Hey now, we’ve seen a lot of great QB play. They play the Packers twice a year!

They’re all Freakanomics parents who read that kids born in September are more likely to become pro athletes.

Hmm on second thought, I’m not sure that holds in the event of a 3-way tie. We may need to wait until Wednesday…

They hold the tiebreak over AZ (4-3 head to head record), so Cubs win on Tuesday, plus SF & CIN losses would do it!

Prediction for the #Bears: - 7-10 - September/October are pretty rough for Caleb, but he lights it up in the second half of the season. Creates optimism for 2026. - Defense finishes in the bottom quarter of the league thanks to an impotent pass rush.

The image is obviously from April 30, 2016, when Michael Conforto hit Matt Cain’s 44th pitch of the game for a double off the wall at Citi Field. Not a pop-up. Disappointed to see The Onion spreading disinformation like this. youtu.be/CLPDLdDeLqY?...

MLB’s highest-paid player in 2020 is not who you think
The coronavirus pandemic has had its economic effects on the 2020 MLB season, but the most bizarre aspect has to be the league-leading salary of one vastly overpaid pitcher. Chen Wei-Yin, who isn’t…

No one will steal 50+ bases. Context: there have been 3 players with 50+ SB in each of the “rule change” seasons, but no one has done it twice.

Pitchers are barely incentivized to keep themselves healthy! Declining to give 110% on every pitch is unilateral disarmament in a world where every team has a dozen AAA arms that throw 97.

Solution to the “do Wild Card byes hurt the top seeds” question: let the top seeds pick between a bye or risking a loss in the Wild Card round. I guarantee 100% prefer the bye.
