That’s really not a good look, but what do you expect from Ubisoft I guess.

Anthropic advocate for ‘ethical AI’ usage if that exists and their models are pretty heavily biased towards responsibility. That said, they are still contributing to the problem.

Yes, you can. It’ll be incomprehensibly slow running off disk rather than RAM / VRAM, however.

A little bit, but in most laptops nowadays the only user-swappable component is the drive anyway. Not that this is how it should be, just how it is.

Agreed. I got 192G on my Mac Studio for ML work, but the price is just obscene. I guess they do it because they can.

To be honest, I haven’t tried any of the newest offerings ie last 1-2 years. But the biggest issues for me have always been battery life, and thermal issues. I’ve spent hours with TLP and Powertop in the past trying to get it decent. (FWIW my go to is also fedora, always the best OOB experience)

I haven’t found a modern Thinkpad that I have liked. I loved my old X230s, and the older X1 Carbons were okay, but the newer ones all suffer with the same issues that all Windows laptops have.

While I agree, unfortunately at the moment their laptops are just simply unmatched, they’re so far ahead it’s unfair. I say this while a huge advocate for Linux and FOSS.

Realistically no matter how powerful your computer is, if you’re running windows and are using a chromium based browser, it will still slow to a crawl.

It’s a ok format, but it never got great adoption and google likes to push it quite aggressively which is generally why it gets a bad rep. JXL as a format interests me more so, personally at least.

Sounds like good old Windows MFT corruption perhaps? You could run a CHKDSK I suppose.

I did a challenge for myself last year, limiting myself to a 16GB drive on my Linux desktop. It was a pain at the start, but after awhile it wasn’t really an issue. I’m much more careful about my storage usage now.

This is both my nightmare and my dream. It would look so damn cool, but I hate mess

This is something that GPT specifically struggles with. Claude does a much better job. But honestly, I wouldn’t bother with either of them; the quality of code they produce is mediocre at best. I find them useful for finding faults in my code I’ve missed, primarily.

Nothing oracle has ever done or conceived can be classified as ‘easy’

A perfect description, even more fitting if you understand how LLMs work.

I ‘believe’ it would be Gothic 2, but I have no idea of the actual numbers.

I remember this, it always reminded me of the intro to like an 6 o’clock news program.

I miss the days when we developed software that used the current hardware to the fullest extent possible.

We should all be using bare terminal interfaces, GUI was a mistake, there’s no reason for an operating system to be over 10MB

Every time I see this image it gets more and more compressed to shit.

I recall taking a paper in which Visual Studio was used, it took many hours for the majority of students to actually get it working on their devices. This was a while ago however, I’m suuuuure it’s better now..

I used to feel so damn cool with the CS5 master collection on my dock in class. Times have changed.

If the medical industry is fine with one, they must be fine with the other, surely?

I understand the audio system can be rather problematic, but not once in at least the last 10 years have I encountered the audio straight up crash. Why do I keep seeing this lately?

The majority of users lack a fundamental understanding of how LLMs work via weights, so you can’t expect them not to believe otherwise.

To be fair, if you’re going to buy a non-MacBook, Thinkpads are still pretty much the best of the tier 1s for Linux. In addition their repairability is pretty decent.

I understand their reasoning; however, their reasoning shows a lack of understanding.
