honestly, if any team thinks Will Bednar is a 3-WAR player over the next 6 years I would still call that team and not hang up until a trade is finalized lol

if any team in the world thinks that Will Bednar is a 3-WAR player the Giants should call that team immediately and not hang up until a trade is finalized

Yeah!! They were so clear it was gonna happen so why didn’t it?!

Horrible look by the Giants. Easily could add him to the roster by placing Roupp on the IL. But instead, gotta maximize playing time for Andrew Knizner in a lost season. Come on, Giants

I think I’m reading into things too much because of how bad the season has been, but the Giants making space by optioning youngsters instead of placing Roupp on the IL feels cheap

It took them an entire offseason + a Spring Training + 159 games, but the Giants have finally spent some money on their bullpen www.mccoveychronicles.com/san-francisc...

We’re surprised too, Camilo. But, uh, not *too* surprised.

this is absolutely the funniest thing the giants could do. but it's also a really good move. credit where it's due.

there's no reason to think Baggs has a vendetta. his coverage has been perfectly fair. it's also been arguably the most disappointing and dysfunctional regular season in Giants history.

Something I think about a lot is the Giants development team talking about how Davidson was so behind the curve as a JUCO guy, that he was basically learning baseball on the fly in the Minors. Really makes you think the sky is potential. Still so green

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

Bo Davidson is on pace to be the greatest player in MLB history

They always do this with late call-ups. Did it with Bryce and Gilbert last year. Pavs answered a question about it in the pod a while back but I can’t remember what it was lol @alexpavlovic.bsky.social

I hate to analyze baseball like a 1960s scout, but Bo Davidson just looks like he’s gonna be a star. Approach, stance, aura, everything. Impossible not to believe in this guy.

Bo Davidson’s first career at-bat is. 9-pitch single. Incredible. This dude is gonna be here a loooong time

The Giants 28-man roster based on status on Opening Day: On the Giants roster: 2 On the IL: 2 On someone else's MLB roster: 1 In DFA purgatory: 1 On the Giants AAA roster: 7 On someone else's AAA roster: 7 On the Giants AA roster: 6 On someone else's AA roster: 1 On the Giants High-A roster: 1

even if they hypothetically did it wouldn't matter, you have to spend 20 days in the Minors after being optioned for it to burn one of your option years

010

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 22/09/2026

no, you only burn an option year if you get optioned

With both Mayer and Davidson being activated, I would assume Eldridge is going on the IL. No need to risk it

Bo Davidson and Marcelo Mayer are both starting tonight. I'll give the Giants this much: they may be a can of steaming dog poop, but they sure giving us reasons to watch

This is suddenly a very interesting baseball game

2121

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

yeah, I was surprised that they called up Perdomo and Marte but never Whitman

000

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

yeah, no team is gonna take that risk with one of their best prospects. honestly I doubt the threat of the R5 draft not happening impacts the decision-making even for lesser prospects, but definitely not for top ones.

110

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Mark meant next year during an MLB lockout. Players who are on the 40-man roster are not eligible to play in the Minors during a lockout. but Davidson will have to be added to the 40-man roster before then regardless.

100

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

yeah, but the protection date is before the lockout begins. and they're not gonna risk leaving Bo Freaking Davidson unprotected just on the coin flip chance that there's no R5 draft

110

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

he has to be added to the roster before the lockout, so he wouldn't be eligible to play for Sacramento in a lockout under any circumstance

010

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

for non-rostered players, yes, but he has to be R5 protected

220

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

he has to be added to the 40-man roster as a Rule 5 protection so that's not an option

McCovey Chronicles @mccoveychronicles.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

I wonder if Bo Davidson gets called up today
