Great to finally get another new cat with great views of both melanistic & spotted forms of Northern Oncilla within 30 hours of arriving at Tamandua Lodge in Panama. My first for 10 years. Also Cacomistle, Tayra, LT Weasel, WN Coati & Northern Olingo for good measure. Photo courtesy of Ewan Davies.

Good to be at Headingley for a good day of test cricket despite the 2-hour rain break. Sadly the rain will probably dominate tomorrow with much less cricket. A sell out crowd will suffer because the ECB continue to prioritise the 100! The 2027 Ashes will be squeezed into 7 weeks for the same reason!

An adult male Honey Buzzard came and landed on our Osprey nest briefly this afternoon, digging in the nest searching for a potential wasp or bees nest?! @dorsetbirdclub.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

With the main parties stepping aside oh for a popular stalking horse candidate to stand as an anti-corruption, anti-Reform candidate in the same way that Martin Bell did all those years ago. The sooner the grifter loses his seat the better.

Great to be back watching test cricket at Trent Bridge over the past two days despite the heat & humidity. Two great days' cricket, hopefully England can push on tomorrow. Already looking forward to Headingley & Edgbaston later in the summer.

Absolutely appalled at Stansted today! Two people in the queue at passport control were openly discussing the need for paramilitary/vigilante groups to shoot immigrants to discourage others from coming. The guy had spent several years working in the Middle East but didn't see the irony. I despair!

Ringing at Skagen has been excellent recently! Blyth’s Reed Warbler (2nd), Red-breasted Flycatchers (29th), Red-backed Shrikes (2nd) and a melanistic Marsh Warbler (1st). I have been super lucky to find both the Blyth’s Reed and Red-breasted Flycatchers in the nets. #birdringing

Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem. Thank you. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot
It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For ‘doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Great to see my 6000th species in Guyana today. Just a shame it was a rather dull Lesser Elaenia rather than the stunning Ocellated Crake seen two birds earlier.

KLM airlines lost Alison’s bag on the way to Guyana. 4 days later still no update, no response, despite repeated requests. Now flown to interior with next to no clothes/ equipment for a 16-day specialist birding trip. Rubbish service. Where’s her bag? Please RT

From the sublime to the ridiculous, from superb England bowling to the complete opposite, what a difference a day makes. Hats off to Travis Head who out bazballed England & destroyed our confidence completely in under 2 hours!

What an absolute privilege to spend the day at the first day of the Ashes in Perth. What a great comeback by England in a great stadium. Some decent birds on the walk along the Swan River to the stadium as well. You don't get that at English grounds. Roll on day 2.

Well I might not have seen my second Norfolk BW Kite today but seeing England score 414 and then bowl out South Africa for 72 was way more enjoyable anyway. Archer's opening spell was the best I've seen from an England quick in years. Just hope he can replicate it down under.

Spectacled Bear. Spent just short of two hours watching this wonderful creature ripping bromeliad's apart for its breakfast in the Andes this morning. 😍 Whilst we had dreamt, we didn't dare believe 😁😁

Currently making our way through the Ecuadorian Andes. Well trodden trail but great to see so many ex-farmers turning their pastured holdings to reforesting, nature and birds and changing their lives through small scale tourism. As many will know the birding is splendid.

Two great days of test cricket at Headingley. Frustrating at times on day 1 but a great fightback by England on day 2. Far more satisfying than the Mickey Mouse T20 & the hideous 100.

Credit where credit's due. Superb service from HM Passport Office. Old passport sent back on Tuesday, new passport & cancelled passport back yesterday, 4 days later. Just a shame that thanks to the disasterous Brexit it's no longer the much nicer & far more useful EU passport.

It was frustrating to miss the Pratincole on route to Manchester but the Santana gig totally made up for it. It was absolutely brilliant & Carlos is still an amazing guitarist. If the first two days of the Headingley test are half as good I'll be very happy.

An incredible experience today. The Agami Heron is a very rare species and one that's difficult to see. But today I made a new friend who discovered a rookery with over 300 of these incredible birds that are on a new property he bought. Agami Island #CostaRica #birds #nature #herons #heron
A striking bird with deep blue and chestnut plumage perches among broad green leaves. Its long, sharp bill and red eye stand out against its smooth, sleek feathers and pale crown.

Having seen my last North American grouse last week, great to see Western Screech Owl last night for my last NA owl. Even better to have a superb Poorwill down to a few feet for 10 minutes even if the phone (or maybe that's the photographer) screwed up all the photos.

Also pleasing to see the refreshing Canadian approach to dogs and wildlife. If only UK conservation organisations were as robust in their approach to dogs and cats!

Great to finally find a Cattle Egret on the local patch today. Also had fantastic views of Jack Snipe down to a few feet! So much easier nowadays with thermal imaging.
