I'm in this picture and I like it
The Edge of Two Worlds art002e009285 (April 6, 2026) – Our planet draws closer to passing behind the Moon in this image captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby, about six minutes before Earthset. Earth is in a crescent phase, with sunlight coming from the right and appearing almost completely blue and white. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over muted blue in the Australia and Oceania region. A part of the dark grey Moon is visible relatively close-up in about 1/3 of the left half of the image. The image shows lines of small indentations on the Moon’s rugged surface that are secondary crater chains. These structures are formed by material ejected during a violent primary impact. Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. NASA / NOAA / Ian Regan

I'm pretty sure I know. They aren't. We're not going to really be able to make a lot of progress in dealing with the implications of this tech unless and until we get rid of all this "woo-woo" talk about LLMs. Anthropic pushing this line is PR, unserious.

The thing that gets me about the “vibe coding is now so good” crowd is that you cannot possibly know how good new code is right away. It’s 6, 18, 24 months down the line you’re gonna find out, after several changes, service merges / splits, pivots etc. THEN we find out. Not now just cos “it works”

And the last thing is that the fact that some coders wrote something that is good at writing code is sort of the least surprising part of this. They should be good at that stuff. The weird bit is when they make things that also try to be friends and therapists and lovers and artists.

Of VC-backed products, 78% fail: 42% fail because nobody wants them. 17% because they don't really solve the problem they claim to solve. 19% because they were no different from competing products or couldn't evolve with the market. And that's just VC-backed companies. 1/2

Agreed. The increase in (so-called) “quality” will I suspect tend to zero as the compute / parameters / layers etc increase. And that’s the best case. I think there’s also a small chance that the GPTs could become more unreliable given the boggling impenetrability of training ever larger networks

Anything that inconveniences a right wing populist is censorship, part 1000. This depraved prick uses that term bc it puts his enemies on the defensive. They cower. Fact-checking is censorship. Labeling is censorship. TRANSPARENCY is censorship. Now, “no nonconsensual nudes” is censorship.
