It was a September evening and all the gaps and clearings in the woods were brimmed up with ruby sunset light…The winds were out in their tops, and there is no sweeter music on earth than that which the wind makes in the fir trees at evening. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES 🎨 Julius von Klever

“I’m so glad I’m going to live here. I’ve always heard that Prince Edward Island was the prettiest place in the world, and I used to imagine I was living here, but I never really expected I would. It’s delightful when your imaginations come true, isn’t it?” ANNE OF GREEN GABLES #lmmontgomery #PEI

Montgomery read Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1903) probably in 1904-5. She never mentioned this book but she quoted from it in Anne of Green Gables. She also read Kate Douglas Wiggin’s Penelope’s Progress in April 1904, mentioned in a letter to George B. MacMillan. #lmmontgomery #anneofgreengables

“Some of the apples had to be picked very carefully. But with others it did not matter; we boys would climb the trees and shake the apples down until the girls shrieked for mercy. The days were crisp and mellow, with warm sunshine and… the woodsy odours of the withering grasses.” THE STORY GIRL
