A reminder that the Latvian Skating Association is not the ONLY institution to be angry at. Let's not overlook the major role the Latvian Olympic Team and the Latvian Olympic Committee have played in this debacle. ⛸️

Long story short, Deniss was willing to do a full season (incl. the GP & ISU championships) but received no guaranteed funding from any of the 🇱🇻 institutions (which he found about from the internet) even though he even offered to work for them in return. ⛸️ www.apollo.lv/8533872/kas-...

These words sound even more poignant now that Deniss was offered no funding: “I skate for Latvia – I've always wanted to be the Latvian who does something special for his country. Meanwhile, some people showed me that my national romanticism was of no interest to the country.” ⛸️

Bear in mind that the Latvian Olympic Team, which used to be Deniss’ main source of funding, is distinct from the Latvian Skating Association. He also said that “[he doesn’t] have any agreements with LSA to guarantee anything", which suggests he wouldn’t have any funding for this season

Deniss missed the 🥈 tier by one spot at Euros (where he competed with an injury) and he’s too old for the 🥉 tier. Fedirs (21 yo) missed the 🥉 tier by 3 spots at Euros, hence no figure skater will receive state funding in the 2026/2027 season.

The criteria introduced in 2024 are very hard to meet by any Latvian figure skater given the level and the number of participants from many different countries of the Olympics / Sr & Jr Worlds / Euros:
