Very thankful to my collaborators as I go through another #JWST cycle recovering from illness (not covid this time thankfully!). I managed to get my resubmits in and will have to hope I get a chance at next year for my new ideas.

I did read a twilight version in a similar vein but that one was much better and when I later actually read and watched twilight, I was disappointed (for all the usual reasons too lol)

Took stock of local EV charger rates to compare to home rate. Last time I did this they were at $0.17/kWh now its $0.38/kWh Looks like my home energy is still competitive at 0.22 but it used to be 0.16 🫠

These tests of our methodologies on Solar System objects, where we KNOW the answers are critical as we prepare for exoplanet data. We have a couple more papers coming down the pipeline that get into the modeling of Exo-Titans so keep an eye out!

Turns out that with JWST-like observations, both can get a good fit, but they have different guesses of what parameters it takes to make it. The models separate at the shortest wavelengths, which means observatories, like HWO, will have the data we'll need to figure out what haze is made of.
An expanded wavelength range showing the model lines start to diverge at shorter wavelengths despite being all on top of each other at longer wavelengths

Then we said, well what if we were looking at an Exo-Titan. If a planet like TRAPPIST-1h had a hazy Titan-like atmosphere could we figure out where the haze is and what it is made of?

We looked at two exoplanet tools and put them to the test of on actual Titan. One with an actual physical haze particle prescription and another with a model of what haze does to a spectrum. This is our control! Both are able to get something resembling Titan with consistent parameters.

New paper! Here we look at Titan as an exoplanet and attempt to agnostically determine whether it has a haze and what it its made of. #exoplanets

Samuel Grunblatt tackles asteroseismology with TESS. This can be difficult because single sector datasets are too short to retrieve pulsation signals. Asteroseismology not only enables refined masses and radii measurements but also ages. #exoplanets6 #exo6
