We're turning an abandoned school into a brand-new recreation center in Ward 5. We will deliver 2 basketball courts, teen gaming and senior lounge, splash pad, community garden, and more. And that makes Crummell Community Center our first official groundbreaking of the summer.

More progress at Walter Reed: Today, we broke ground on 141 new townhomes at Canopy Row. That means 141 new homeownership opportunities in Ward 4—and continued transformation of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus into a thriving mixed-use neighborhood.

More DC residents are using city-run composting programs. In 2025, DPW collected 3.3M lbs of food waste. Good news for DC composters: We're expanding all 3 of our programs! And we're celebrating the expansion at a very fitting place: the LEED Gold-certified Anacostia Library.

Our community has composted 11M+ lbs of food waste since 2017. The environmental equivalent of planting and growing 35,000 trees for 10 years. While we're on the subject—we're also planting thousands of trees every year. Very proud of our green, clean, beautiful DC.
