It was an immense honor to attend FDNY’s Firemen’s Memorial service on Riverside Drive. We remember those who devoted their lives to protecting our city, the families who make enormous, unseen sacrifices, and every member of New York’s Bravest who do the extraordinary to every single day.

Hispanic New Yorkers give our city its flavor, sound, & style. Where else do you hear Mixtec & Quechua on the same train? Smell chaufa & champurrado on the same block? See a Dominican barber give a Venezuelan kid a fade, a life lesson, & a new accent in one visit? Last night, we celebrated it all.

"This day is profoundly painful for so many New Yorkers. It marks three years since the horrific war crimes of October 7. On that day, Hamas killed more than 1,100 Israelis and abducted 251 others. We grieve alongside our many friends and neighbors who still carry that unthinkable loss.

The suffering did not begin nor end that day. It instead continued through the Israeli government’s devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which it has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians—including more than 21,000 children. Even since the so-called ceasefire, more than 1,400 Palestinians have been killed. That suffering has intensified with every Israeli bomb dropped on ambulances waiting outside hospitals, every drone strike targeting a residential building or journalist, and every shipment of food aid turned away at a border crossing. Many New Yorkers are reckoning with this unbearable grief, and we mourn alongside them – all while knowing that our tax dollars fund these war crimes.

Three years later, we must refuse to accept a world in which occupation and apartheid continue, where war crimes are met with impunity, and our federal government continues its complicity with every arms shipment.

To honor the dead, we must fight for a world in which every person can live with freedom, safety, and dignity."

From the business owners who strengthen our neighborhoods, to the sounds of Afrobeats pouring from graduation parties in Southeast Queens, & the aroma of Agege bread calling to a passersby in Brooklyn — Nigerian New Yorkers have made our city richer in culture, stronger in community & more vibrant.

I was honored to visit Our Lady Salam, the first Arabic-speaking Lutheran parish on Staten Island. Its congregants hail from as close as Hylan Blvd to as far as Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, & Egypt — yet have planted roots in our city. Many carry the weight of war and genocide daily.

229 new affordable homes are coming to the Bronx.

We just broke ground on Sol on Park:
• 80 homes for current NYCHA residents
• 69 homes for formerly homeless seniors
• 79 homes for low- and middle-income seniors
• 8,000 sq. ft. of community space, including a health and wellness center

This is what’s possible when we invest in NYCHA and use the power of government to build a City where New Yorkers come first.

Too often, homeless New Yorkers cycle from our hospitals to our streets — making it harder to continue treatment and find long-term stability.

The City's Bridge to Home program in Manhattan ends the cycle by providing a safe place for New Yorkers to live while they receive medical care, apply to jobs, and find an apartment. The program has been a massive success.

Today, we’re expanding Bridge to Home to Brooklyn and Queens, so more New Yorkers get the help they need.

The storm’s expected path has shifted closer to our city, bringing heavier rain and stronger winds.

If you’re traveling this weekend, give yourself extra time. Check your train, ferry, or flight before you leave, and avoid low-lying coastal roads around high tide.

If you live in a basement apartment, know your way out and be prepared to move to a higher floor if conditions become dangerous.

New Yorkers, here’s what you need to know about this week’s nor’easter:

The storm is expected to pass offshore, keeping the heaviest rain east of New York City. But we should still prepare for gusty winds, rain, and some high-tide flooding beginning today, peaking Friday, and potentially continuing through Sunday.

If you live near the coast, move your car to higher ground or away from streets that regularly flood.

Secure loose outdoor items, including furniture and garbage containers, that could be picked up by strong winds.
Storm tracks can change, so please stay informed and be prepared.

For emergency alerts, text NOTIFYNYC to 692-692.
