I just discovered Zine Making. And this fits really nicely to my other hobbies! Looking forward to printing some Photo-Zines so I finally have my images in physical form!

I want to learn drawing to do urban sketching. Urban sketchers make it look so easy! Like right now I am learning by trying to sketch images, but my proportions are way of... I have a long way to go

I really like the Geheimakte Tunguska Series. But might also be a bit harder.

It does make a lot of sense to learn a language based on its logical structure rather than based on your mother tongue's/English's structure/translations. This reminds me a bit of Language Transfer - I listen to it when I learned Spanish. But Spanish is much closer to English. #langsky

Ok, I just started watching Cure Dolly for Japanese grammar explanations. I could kick myself for not doing it earlier! It makes so much sense now. Really helpful so far.

Not an app, but for Spanish if you want to get better at listening, check out the Youtube Channel Dreaming Spanish. This is what I mainly credit for m, understanding of Spanish.

I agree! I have started to enjoy learning languages since I left school - as well as other things. School teaching doesn't really allow students to learn their way.

A good thing with learning languages is taking just 15min a day. Learn vocab when waiting for the bus or listen to a podcast when driving. How I find time is doing it first in the morning, so I don't forget. I have never considered Mongolian, now I want to look into what type pf language that is.

Honestly for Spanish the most helpful for me was by far the Youtube Channel Dreaming Spanish. But Comprehensible Input is maybe not the best for streaming.

I think crime shows a some of the few German produced series that are quite decent - especially in collaboration with Skandinavia.

I have been in a language learning rut the last month, but now I am getting the motivation back!

Yes! Definitely way better than Fremdschämen. That is a feeling I do not like.

I don't have time for all the things I would like to do and like to learn. Mainly because if I actually have time I just sit around aand watch random movies...

Don't know an app, but I loved Dreaming Spanish for the Immersion part!

Mayabe @mayabe.bsky.social · 27/01/2026
I agree, I think Immersion is often considered as enough, is because it's the one thing we didnt do in school, but what got us from school level to fluent - forgetting school taught us the base + it is a nice excuse to do more passive learning, which depending on how it's done isnt actually helpful.

What helped me with Thai was lingopolo.org. They seem to have quite a bit of German content. You can use Anki with pre made Decks. These helped me build a habit. Also you could consume beginner friendly content - makes learning more enjoyable.

Why is getting back into the flow of language learning after a holiday so annoying...?

Also can recommend the Teuida app for Grammar and speaking practice and Wagotabi is a game for Grammar+Vocab and makes learning a bit more fun.

For me a big one is files are local and markdown. You have control and they are readable universally.

I bought a notebook with I believe 250 pages and my 2026 plan is to fill it like a journal but in Japanese.

Might have just bought a new camera 👀 A Om5 Mark II. My Birthday/Christmas present for myself.

Currently debating which camera I want to buy. Guess it depends on which model my local second hand options have first. After all a decent, small M43 camera costs so much.

On that note questions to the people using asbplayer+yomitan: How to best handle sentence that are broken in pieces in the transcript? (I here Asbplayer recording the whole sentence, but in Anki its just the part showing on the screen (audio as well).

Mayabe @mayabe.bsky.social · 26/11/2025
I have set up Yomitan and Asbplayer on my Android recently. Didnt have the chance to really dive in and figure everything out yet.

Currently sick - forced break from my Japanese learning... I am behind, was planning to finish Genki 1 this year and not sure if I will make it.

I liked Teuida a lot. Renshuu is recommended as well. Or just the old fashioned grammar book like Genki. Anki for Vocab - there are existing lists (also for grammar)

Currently studying roughly 10h a week, doing Genki, Anki (Vocab+Mnemonics), Comprehensive Input. And recently started talking to an acquaintance, but only ~2h a month. I want to get through Genki 1 this year and Genki 2 maybe until March '26. So that I can then fully focus on Immersion!

So, it's official. I have around a year, before I will go to Japan for ~4 month! Meaning I have ~1 year to better my Japanese as much as possible!

Yes, I agree

I mean... probably more useful than some things you learn in textbooks or on Duolingo 😅

If you consume media in the German, that is also a use. I think generally language learning is good for the brain as well. But really, I just learn languages for fun.

I mean, news sites can use very specific language sometimes!

Except the first, a lot of times it helps to split the words, since German has a lot of compound words. Of course, you first need to recognize the separate words... Fahr-rad-fahren Haus-tiere
