The Sept. 8 WSJ op-ed, "Is Court Packing Constitutional? Don't Be So Sure," by James Piereson of the Manhattan Institute is unencumbered by literally any constitutional argument. I'm not a fan of Court packing, but WSJ's editorial staff should be embarrassed.

I posted on this too, calling it a denominator problem--for every superstar who asks for help and has grit are tens of thousands of unknown people with such traits. But writing that success demands honing rare/valued talent and might also benefit from grit and common sense won't make a best seller.

There's a notable risk of misunderstanding. The deficit is the annual accretion to the national debt, not the debt itself. When this happened, the debt was around 3.4 to 5.7 trillion, in 2000 dollars, which would have to be time adusted to 2026. What's happened since, of course, remains egregious.

If you're familiar with my work you know I'm well aware of real families and the real suffering on both sides. My post isn't about that conflict. It is instead about the tragedy happening in our politics, a topic on which I've published extensively. The US as a dysfunctional democracy helps no one.

Disappointed to learn the invitation to feature Parliamentary America at the Brooklyn Smutty Book Club is a likely scam. I briefly imagined persuading readers a functional American democracy might be more plausible than the fantasies typically occupying the group's reading list.

The fundamental threat our democracy continues to face arises from two party presidentialism. It's not that I wish to die on this hill. It's that unless others climb this hill with me, our democracy will die.

I increasingly wonder if professors opposed to reliance on economics methodologies to gain insight into law and lawmaking institutions are primarily concerned the resulting analyses are simplistic and overly reductionist, or instead, overly intricate and unnecessarily complex.

I think it correlates to that, but that the real cause might be an increasingly entrenched perception of a widening education/class division that keeps getting worse. Sandel's Myth of Meritocracy helps, and that was written before open access AI, which seems to me clearly to exacerbate this trend.
