No worries, they drive themselves to extinction. First up, it will become a race to the bottom, so income with more and more fizzle out for quality reasons. Secondly token generators will get more and more expensive, so not really going in their favor on that front too. In the end they just die out.

Well, those platform service companies have to come up with replacing their child labor quickly now that the EU is taking a closer look at their business model. If you have a sweat shop made out of pre-puberty teens or token generators doesn't matter to them, as long as the exploitation works.

I have mixed feelings about the show. It started nicely with the first two episodes but from that point it felt like the episodes are just shuffled together like it happened with Firefly. Was HBO just messing with the intended order?

That's why actually people are so exciting and you see numbers of 50% productivity gains - it has nothing to do with getting rid of productive people in the process, just getting rid of management bloat down to a single small c-suit layer and perhaps a few enablers doing administrative stuff.

Token generators basically provide the solution of the "but I am essential" dilemma. So basically you fire the dude doing the controlling, reporting and nothing else and replace it by a generator. Then you validate the what happens if you turn it off (aka control environment) and voila ;-)

Haha, if you actually take a closer look than you realize that most positions in IT that got replace by token generators are actually line managers. There's simply little gained to try replacing productive work force but huge productivity gains by removing non-enablers and BS job holders.

Why? It's an legal entity, not an human person. Barely anyone productive from the golden/silver ages is still working there, it's just a few mostly irrelevant managers still there. I'd say Bethesda is more predictable currently than Blizzard - not in a good way, but still.

Asset creators are often artist, so their work output is by definition way more chaotic, which is a very good thing for the end result, but it means overall production cycle is highly unspecific as long as you don't have a "x hours, good enough" policy in place, sacrificing quality over timelines.

MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Nah, writing software is like doing an operation on a human. There are chaotic elements to it that make less predictable like say an assembly line but it is not chaotic when done properly. The issue with game development is that you have to work with assets creators and often incompetent managers.

Look, the truth is, you cannot release a software in a fixed window. That's simply not how it works and game development is even more complex, sometimes self inflicted borderline chaotic. So a release date that far in the future is just PR nonsense from an Excelsheet and nothing more.

Nah, Bethesda themselves revealed during an interview last year that the game only started the concepting phase well after the teaser after the interviewee was pressured why it has taken so long. And it makes sense to someone like me who worked in the industry ;-)

Yeah, spoiler, generally you announce projects that early when your are in a pickle. Bethesda did the same with Elder Scrolls IV, even there was nothing even started yet, just to distract from their current disasters. And it worked swimmingly, cause that's how bad reporting these days has become.

It was ok; pretty much what was expected. Not really sure what makes it so great, but I'm not from Lake America country, so maybe I miss something weird going on over there like inches or ice cubes in everything :-).

He finally went to the last place capitalism couldn't reach. What I find strange with is that not many even mention Red Alert as one of the things that made him famous, heck, I'm sure most people on the internet don't know him or C&C, just the meme.

I guess the pity period is over. People are just sick of getting nickle and dimed and they are well aware that developers, asset creators, level and system designers and anyone else involved in a productive matter don't benefit whatsoever from sales and will most likely get dumped no matter what.

Luckily that is one software company I never had the need of using in my entire life. Looking forward to another couple of Adobe less years :-)

I always find it hilarious when sci-fi theme shows are announce in Dungeon&Dragon's time systems. 9pm, how quaint - squire turn on the jester's box lol

On days like those I'm always thinking something must be wrong with me because the moon being in-front of the sun impresses me as much as someone dropping a glass. It's at best "oh yeah, that happened" moment while everyone around me seems to see the 2nd coming of Christ or something lol

To be fair, it's basically in the job description that every publicly traded company must be evil. That's why they exist in the first place, to prevent consequences to individuals when you do something bad.

And the main reason was actually not greed - it was lit. brick and mortar stores demanding price parity. They don't matter anymore, but now the biz is very comfortable with the over charging while production cost went in the cellar thanks to advanced tooling and cheap production methods.
000
MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Yeah, when I worked in the biz 30% returns of the sticker price was a great margin. It was often way less. Not because of the production cost of the physical media itself, that was dirt cheap, but distribution and trade partner cuts. Digital games were heavily overpriced.

The technical term for it is "token generator bug". However that kinda doesn't have the same PR/marketing ring to it, so I can see why it's not widely used by those that want to sell it as a product.

That said, I was reading Woman of Tomorrow beforehand half a year ago, so knowing the original story it's hard to ignore all the shortcomings of the movie even if you try to be objective. But still, the plot of the film felt rocky and the ending made feel the film pointless.
010
MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 28/06/2026
Okay, saw it yesterday. Now ignoring what it seems to be based on it felt like a subpar film and otherwise it completely missed the mark. I dunno if the script was bad or the direction ruined the script; but I guess there are a lot of internal discussions going on right now with people involved.

Maybe on Friday. If there's time. Currently is the world cup, so I doubt a lot of people in the world will actually go watch it. What a weird time to release a film honestly. Did nobody actually consider this?

MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 24/06/2026
It's "only" $80 for the single player part. No worries, GTA online is for sure costing that one again. So that makes it a $160 price tag.

Adobe was never fun. Especially not on Linux but even on Windows it was always the "there's simply nothing more complete around" compromise. But slowly their monopoly seems to erode and it's yet another big company I'm not going to miss ever.
110
MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
Well, that is easy to say, but a lot of people in the world are actually not only way over their heads in debt, they don't even have a way out and cannot afford a transition. Not everyone has the luxury like myself with financial foresight to have been able to quit and join more profitable fields.
000
MaxiTB @maxitb.bsky.social · 16/06/2026
To be fair, a lot of studios sell out even though it's well known since EA that it only ends in one way. It doesn't matter when you sell out to whom you sell out and it's always the fault to the one taking the money, not the other party.

Ironically I don't know a single person who is using smart tech that actually knows how smart tech works/is being made. That said, I would maybe get one of those when they come with the source code and a debug port.
