I love this analogy so much. I've been looking for a good mental model for the advice of "always leaving the codebase better than you found it", and the betterment metric seems to be a perfect fit.

I've been in a bit of a rut these past few weeks, but I've come out of it with a renewed need for writing. Not just the long-form, heavily researched stuff that takes forever to write, but also the shorter, scrappy, sometimes nonsensical stuff. Like this post.
