On the day a German state parliament elects the first far-right speaker since WWII, this is tabloid Bild’s homepage this evening: Ronaldo, Messi, a reality show and an article about a Playboy shoot all come before coverage of what the result means…for the ruling party CDU. @okwonga.bsky.social

Just starting @dacemoglumit.bsky.social ‘s new book and already hoping there’ll be a review from @quinnslobodian.com
This is a photograph of 3 lines from a book. The quote reads ‘In this book, I focus on the crisis of liberalism - rather than the sordid ideas and strategies of antiliberal forces - because I believe that these noxious currents are alive only as a result of liberalism’s crisis and weakness.’ The word ‘only’ is highlighted.

Looking for research about lotteries and political support for capitalism: The dream of becoming rich one day > self-identity as "temporarily disadvantaged millionaire" > parasocial class solidarity with the wealthy ("it could be me paying this wealth tax"). pointers welcome!

Great article @quinnslobodian.com - it also indirectly shows why the many callers for a new system or political order need to be more propositional. Any consensus that ‘emerges’ and is featured at places like Harvard is likely to be rebranded, toothless centrism.

If you’ve ever called for a new political order, economy, or narrative, I have one question: Where is that new system going to come from? This week I was at 2 events where speakers again called for a long-term project. No one seemed to disagree. But where is the plan to make it happen?

Which American president said this about how their government was helping small business? a) Jimmy Carter b) Ronald Reagan c) Bill Clinton Answer and link to source below.
'We've gotten the Prompt Payments Act on the books so the small firms doing business with the Government are paid promptly.
We're increasing Federal procurement from minority enterprise. We've provided small business with more opportunity to participate in international trade through the Export Trading Company Act; signed into law the Small Business Innovation Development Act, assuring small high-tech firms a greater share of government research and development'

Really tough issue. One thing is to tackle things that people (quite often wrongly) blame on migrants, eg lack of GP appointments or housing shortages. Fairness matters a lot - if people can see or can be persuaded that they & others are being treated equally, that should help.

Too many have confused promoting stability with doing the same thing over and over again. If the situation changes, the only way to maintain stability is to adapt. Otherwise, before long you’re achieving nothing but protecting your own position while actively creating instability for others.
