I often think my gardening style is much like US policy. Sometimes I carefully encourage natives hoping they naturally force out the invaders. Sometimes I yank out invaders, with many natives getting pulled out in the process. Once in awhile, I go nuclear (round up) and everyone dies. Quackgrass!

Some of it is cultish behavior, some willful ignorance, and yes it is appalling and infuriating. But I do not think anyone is irredeemable. Or almost anyone. There are a few I can think of that have condemned themselves to hell.

Only about 40% of American adults are interested in politics/public policy. You are correct, likely many of those 40% will not be persuaded. That leaves a lot of people. The people around them are telling them the "crazy leftists don't give a shit about you". Then you ostracize them, what happens?

I also have a slightly different take. If we silo ourselves off from others, especially others that might actually be persuadable, how will they ever be persuaded? As I tell my daughter and her friends, don't hide your light, you never know who will be enlightened.

It's hard. I know her to be a considerate and kind person. She actually couldn't say who she would/did vote for. Likely voted 3rd party. Her husband has Fox News on all the time, rants about politics to her. She claims to not pay attention. But it creeps into her psyche. Her husband is a moron.

I still remember my sister saying to me in the summer of '24 Harris "just wasn't intelligent" and Biden remaining in office amounted to "elder abuse". She claimed she didn't support Trump but didn't know where else to turn. I didn't cut her out of my life, I did tell her don't fall for propaganda.

I have not seen that comic. But I often say since I didn't end up doing anything "great" with my life, luckily I had a daughter. So she can do great things and I can say my greatest achievement was raising a great human being. Lots of pressure on a kid.

My husband makes the best lemon bars from my mom's recipe. They look similar to these. He verified the recipes are similar. Although mom's original recipe called for oleo which has been replaced with real butter.

Other middlemen drain resources with little benefit. Pharmacy benefit management? How much do they charge to delay/deny coverage? Specialized medical equipment? How often does a healthcare facility have to purchase new equipment because of "planned obsolescence". Lobbyists to keep this all legal.

One major reason healthcare costs so much is the absolute waste spent by healthcare providers dealing with the health insurance industry. Administrative costs for Advantage plans and HMOs are 10 to 20 times as much as Medicare. 15% off healthcare costs just by eliminating them.

You know what is unaffordable? Being afraid to go to work because your streets are overrun by ICE agents snatching people off the streets. Schools closing because ICE is targeting staff and families of those schools. Replacing the windows ICE broke out of your car as you drove to the doctor.
