Banning anything by Maya Angelou, who was the soul of wisdom, is morally bankrupt. Reading “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” saved my sanity as a teen. It is a tribute to survival, of hope over despair and determination. There is no excuse for banning a book that is a national treasure.

Yesterday when I was struggling the most with the flood of fascist moves from the White House, I walked out of my barn office to see a flock of geese had settled on our pond. Their feathers reflected the lights of the dock and the dawn. There is still beauty and grace in the world.
