I'm giving instructions like these. It improved phrasing a bit, but the summaries of completed work still meander
How to talk to me

Plain statements, no emphasis scaffolding. Four specific patterns to drop:

- **"worth"** — "worth noting", "worth knowing", "worth watching", "worth having". Say the thing.

- **"you should"** — "you should look at", "you should note". Either it's an instruction, in which case say what to do, or it's information, in which case just give it.

- **Emphasis for emphasis' sake** — "importantly", "critically", "note that", "keep in mind", "the key thing here". Same family as "load-bearing", which was retired for the same reason. The problem was uniformity: when everything got the same emphasis phrase, nothing stood out and I couldn't tell critical from nice-to-have.

For example
Q: By thinking of anesthesia as a measurable form of unconsciousness, does that tell us anything about what consciousness actually is?

Dr Brown: When people ask me what I study, I say that I study unconsciousness, because that's what I want to create in the most sound way for the purpose of anesthesia care. But we know that a person can be in a coma because of a stroke that affects the cortex, the brainstem, or the thalamus. There are all sorts of ways of turning the system off. That suggests the conscious process depends on these brain areas being well integrated and
communicating in such a way that you're awake and you're aware.

Vertically cropped shot of Indian blanket flowers filling frame. (Indian blankets, or firewheels, are actually part of the sunflower family, but have distinct color patterns that inspire their common name. They are most commonly reddish orange in the center and transition to yellow on the outer part of the flower, but some varieties can be completely red.)

“It's time to defund AISD and criminally investigate Superintendent Matias Segura,"
Hall said in a social media post.
During an interview with the conservative nonprofit Texas Values, Hall said taxpayers in his district were concerned about state funding going into a district where "instead of focusing on education they are focusing on gender identity and celebrating pride and things like that."
"[lf] we don't stop it in Austin ISD, we are going to see more of this across the state," Hall said. "We need to make a statement and set an example. We will not put up with you breaking the law."
Hall stated that AISD was not complying with Senate Bill 12. The law passed in 2025 and prohibits "diversity, equity and inclusion duties," including activities that reference gender or sexual orientation, at K-12 public
AISD held Pride Week from March 23 to 27 with the theme "beYOUtiful" Students' participation was voluntary, and activities took place outside instructional time, including before or after school or during lunch.
Activities included displaying photos of students' families, wearing wacky socks and sitting with different people during lunch. On the last day each grade level wore a different color to school
In their guidelines, district officials said AISD celebrated Pride Week during March to "show support" for the diverse students, staff and families. Officials also
acknowledged that in past years the district had provided a suggested curriculum and had distributed swag to schools, but that his year it would look different due to "an ever changing environment."

Dear God www.thetimes.com/world/middle...
But The Sunday Times has obtained a new report from doctors on the ground, which says at least 16,500 protesters have died and 330,000 have been injured, most of them in two days of utter slaughter in the most brutal crackdown by the clerical regime in its 47-year existence. For now, the streets are almost empty. Some protesters may be taking a break to regroup, Shams said, but there is also disappointment that Donald Trump’s promise last week that “help is coming” has not been followed through. Instead, on Thursday, Trump thanked the regime for not carrying out 800 executions. “I greatly respect the fact that all scheduled hangings, which were to take place yesterday (over 800 of them), have been cancelled by the leadership of Iran,” he posted on Truth Social. “Thank you!” It is unclear where the number of 800 has come from.

Always amazes me Michael Lewis started his career in similar fashion
While in England, Lewis was invited to a banquet hosted by the Queen Mother, where his cousin, Baroness Linda Monroe von Stauffenberg, one of the organizers of the banquet, purposefully seated him next to the wife of the London managing partner of Salomon Brothers. Lewis's cousin hoped that his intelligence might impress the partner's wife enough to suggest to her husband that Lewis be given a job with Salomon Brothers. The strategy worked, and Lewis was granted an interview and subsequently received a job offer.

I had this job in 2007, can’t recommend it enough. You’ll learn so much and find yourself with opportunities you never expected. In my case, I learned I did not want to cover politics for a living, but I had the opportunity to leave a small imprint on the mag with my camera and this pic of Obama
Barack Obama wears a black cowboy hat (that was handed to him by a fan) while surrounded by people with 2007-vintage digital cameras and flip phonesIn February 2007, Barack Obama left the stage at Austin's Auditorium Shores and waded into the crowd of 20,000.
Someone in the giddy throng pressed a black cowboy hat into his hands.
As luck, and a quick shutter finger, would have it. Matt Wright, a 26-year freelance photographer who was the Observer's blogger at the time, was looking at Obama through a telephoto lens about 30 yards away as the scene unfolded. "He had this grin on his face, plunked it on his head, and tipped it once," Wright said. "It was kind of mock serious."
A few hours later, Wright posted the photo to the Observer's blog, writing, "As (Obama] exited the podium, people were practically running. trying to find a way backstage to have their picture taken with him. Crazy stuff."
The indelible Image-simultaneously capturing
Obama's poise and playfulness-quickly became an Internet phenomenon. Wright said he realized the photo had gone viral when the next day someone showed him a mass e-mail headlined "There's a New Sheriff in Town." Over the past year, the cowboy Obama photo has cropped up on Atlantic Monthly's Web site, as well as in the Austin American-Statesman, an ad for a cowboy hat company in Denver, a museum exhibit called "Cowboys and Presidents," and on YouTube, in a video featuring mariachis singing an Obama themed corrido.
Since his brief Austin giddy-up, Obama seems to have steered clear of cowboy accoutrements.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid told reporters in August, "Barack Obama doesn't wear cowboy boots, doesn't wear a cowboy hat-because it wouldn't look right." We know better. -Forrest Wilder

I thought the piece stopped short of damning by including quotes like this one. But it’s upsetting that this work was allowed to be taught for decades as clinical guides when it contained fabrications.
Mort Doran, a surgeon with Tourette's syndrome whom Sacks profiled in
"Anthropologist," told me that he was happy with the way Sacks had rendered his life. He said that only one detail was inaccurate-Sacks had written that the brick wall of Doran's kitchen was marked from Doran hitting it during Tourette's episodes. "I thought, Why would he embellish that? And then I thought, Maybe that's just what writers do." Doran never mentioned the error to Sacks. He was grateful that Sacks "had the gravitas to put it out there to the rest of the world and say, 'These people aren't all nuts or deluded. They're real people.?"
