White got got by a certain ghost of @okato.tf's... Hope he's gonna be happy in his new squishy body... Though it doesn't look like he's too unhappy about this predicament~

Get creative! Use blocks in ways they weren't intended for! That's what building is all about! Also, this method works for any game, not just minecraft. Go nuts!

The house is fully built, with a second floor, a balcony, and an exit onto the roof. One half of the building is a single floor, with a flat roof, and the other half is two stories, with a dark oak balcony protruding, and a tented roof.

The same building is opened for external viewing, showing the second floor, including a painting on the wall.

Last but certainly not least, depending on its size, distinguishing different sections of the building with different flooring or an altogether different block palette can be used as well!

The crafting table and chests have an orange material beneath them, and somewhat near the bed is a dark brick flooring, indicating the cooking area. Eight furnaces line the wall, with brewing stands sitting atop fence posts.

Visual variation is the next rule, and consists of using different colors and variations of blocks (Stone Bricks vs Cobblestone, Birch vs Oak vs Jungle Logs/Planks, ETC.) as well as taking inspiration from real-life buildings. I.E. Pointed Roofs, Flat Roofs, Indented Walls.

The original grassy field, now with birch plank walls with glass windows, dark oak pillars, a white and black checkerboard wool floor, a bed, chests, and a crafting table. Torches have been placed outside.

As a note, including shifts in height in the base design is also important where possible, and should be considered.

A different spot in the same grassy field from before, on a slight incline.

A cobblestone frame has been placed there, in the shape of an L, with some light dirt removal.

A basic wooden framework has been build atop the foundation, nearing the idea of a house.

Flooring and furniture has been placed inside, now only missing a roof.

First, and most importantly, is shape. Taking a few moments to mark out a somewhat interesting shape can help an upcoming build look less samey. The more angles, the better, to a point, depending on how big you intend for the structure to be.

Well, no. Not quite. Build with no sense of direction, with no care for the finished product, and you end up with every minecrafter's first home. So, how do you do better?

In Minecraft, a basic, boxy house, made of oak planks, with double doors, windows on each side, and basic furniture within.
