Pomegranate molasses is nice to have on hand for a bit of tang, works well in a lot of contexts.

Pretty sure in this case a full remodel triggers a reassessment. It might not be as much as if it were fresh but you don’t get to keep the assessment on a 1000 sq ft house when you double its size.

I feel like I have more privacy in SF than the panopticon-like suburb I grew up in.

The image they’re using just spiked my heart rate for a second. Downtown is so bad a lot of the day, intersections and crosswalks are regularly blocked by cars.

I will die on the hill that it should have been “yes, it’s really me, it’s Maui, reel it in” instead of breathe it in, but I do still think that Moana is probably the best thing Disney made that decade and one of the best they’ve ever made.

I think you’re right but at the same time the ads really ought to be a lot less annoying. Too many sites have ads that take up huge amounts of space, move around, crash the tab, etc. I get it, nobody has ad depts anymore and all of this is strung together as cheaply as possible. It just sucks.

Those infographics that have the companies most responsible for emissions and it’s all oil companies, as if they’re just lighting oil on fire for money and not selling gasoline to people to put in their cars.

On our walks around the city, my husband and I regularly imagine all of the additional gay neighbors we could have if only there were more housing.

Idk man, I’m sure you’ll agree that the housing market is distorted towards single family homes due to regulation and that an efficient market would supply fewer of them. I’m sure cars are different but I doubt it is an efficient market free from distorting regulations and policies.

Fair enough. I honestly don’t know how we fix this because I would say that there is a strain of WDS out there, and that’s not something that can be reasoned with. Personally, I think he will be a great representative, and because of that, I hope he gets elected and proves his haters wrong.

Everywhere I’ve lived in SF was at one point working class housing, in a building close to 100 years old, and paid dearly for.

Unfortunately, even with massive process changes in the areas with the highest prices/demand to radically speed things up, it’s just reality that it will take years to dig ourselves out of a hole we’ve spent decades making. It’s unsatisfying but only underlines how important it is to start now.

I can’t help but wonder how much of the responsibility for poor e-waste collection lies with the city and how much lies with Recology. The last time I dropped off at Recology a few years ago it wasn’t a good experience. The drop-off location was hard to find, buried in their facility, poor signage.

I think there are a lot of people out there who would be great at the job, but the costs (harassment, you/your loved ones being put under a microscope, hostile media) of bring a public figure have gotten high. There are people brave enough/thick enough skin for that, but it’s not for everyone.

The variant going around wasn’t in the shot this year. That said, it’s still effective at reducing the severity of the infection and keeping you out of the hospital (and this seems to be true even in cases like this where the strains don’t match perfectly)

Cars driven by people pollute more than the new self-driving cars, and when they are parked they are empty and take up tremendous amounts of valuable public space. We are already filling out streets with empty, polluting cars.

mattsf.bsky.social @mattsf.bsky.social · 05/12/2025
When someone drives their own car in the city, they contribute to traffic and use space on the road in two segments: 1) going somewhere (normal contribution to traffic) and 2) driving around crowded areas for 5-30 minutes looking for parking. Waymos etc. only contribute to #1.
000
mattsf.bsky.social @mattsf.bsky.social · 05/12/2025
In cities where street parking is underpriced (which is to say, most of them), there are plenty of cars driving around looking for parking at any given moment.
