Date Waxcap (Hygrocybe spadicea) Having an incredible bumper year in Britain following the hot dry summer and seemingly the same in Ireland. A pleasure to see 100's of fruit bodies this morning at what is now the 4th known Irish site (the 3rd also found this year).

#ukfungusday and nice to finally have Waxcaps up and about. Surveys this week still have a feeling of early September in terms of who's fruiting. The hot dry summer really seems to have pushed the season back. Fibrous Waxcap (Hygrocybe intermedia)

Not sure if the introduction was intentional or not but yep not a native here. Does seem quite extensive so I think will likely be removed eventually similar to the Sarracenias etc

Only caught those few petals but I reckon a few weeks earlier than i was there the blooms would be very impressive!

Continuing with aquatic neophytes I met for the first time this week: Cabomba caroliniana. Surely one of the hairiest plants that grows fully submerged? #wildflowerhour

Pickerelweed (Pontederia cordata). A new one for me whilst on a southern botanical adventure this weekend. A neophyte and often removed but persisting at this pond. #wildflowerhour

Potamogeton x schreberi in the River Stour this afternoon. Only known from this river in Britain and with few sites elsewhere in Europe.

The gorgeous Potamogeton x variifolius (P. berchtoldii x P. natans). Fairly unique looking amongst British and Irish Pots. Really tiny floating leaves and linear submerged leaves. Growing in good stands in the Glenamoy River, Mayo. #wildflowerhour

Potamogeton x cooperi. (P. crispus x P. perfoliatus). A ridiculously beautiful Pondweed 😍 Lateral veins, leaf attachment and toothing intermediate between parents. Also has a compressed stem with slight furrows either side from crispus parent (much more obvious on a cross section). #wildflowerhour
