I've worked with Vojta for four years He builds most of the code for my course sites, including: aihero.dev totaltypescript.com aicodingdictionary.com He knows a thing or two about frontend design And guess what, his skills are 🔥 (1/2)

Today's hot take: Agents are actually really good at strategic programming It's just they aren't RL'd to actually care about it "Just do the task at hand, don't do anything else" So all you need to do is to tell your agent to care about its own codebase. (1/2)

Starting to realise that to make agents strategic, they really just need a clear goal. I.e. they can hill climb anything (as long as they have the data), but they need to know where they're going. (1/2)

1. Oh shit, AI can do my job better than me 2. Software engineering is dead! 3. I can vibe code as much slop as I want! 4. Oh, things are not going well. Fable/Sol/Opus all suuuck 5. But what if I constrain the agent? Put it in a straitjacket? 6. Oh, the results are pretty good now. (1/2)

Prompt of the day: /writing-for-agents my AGENTS.md is a hot mess, propose a series of restructurings that: - Remove no-ops - Use progressive disclosure - Move instructions to CODING_STANDARDS.md Apply your work over three subagents, each more radical than the last. Create a single PR. (1/2)

IMO you should be specializing my skills to your work I.e. you should extend /grill-me to make sure it: 1. Holds you to a high standard of product design 2. Does a survey about security implications 3. Uses /show-me to preview the code for you

Having shipped the AI Coding Crash Course (largely for beginners/intermediates) means that the upcoming Cohort will be really quite advanced/in-depth Just recorded an 11-minute /grill-with-docs session about DDD, scenario testing, and sharpening language. It's so good

Prompt of the day: /retro take a look at as many GitHub PR review comments as you have access to from my team. Create suggestions for updates to CODING_STANDARDS.md (breaking into multiple files as needed). Makes your PR comments inform the code going forward.

I've added /retro into the "Main Flow" of my skills - I consider it that important. Even running it on a 'successful' agent session can turn up inefficiencies and workarounds the agent is battling against. www.aihero.dev/skills-retro

My hot take from chatting to @poteto is that we should use MORE abstractions in the AI age You can use them (combined with harsh lint rules) to reduce the design space available to the agent and constrain them only to good decisions. (1/3)

It's filming day for the new course. The ginger beard has reached a critical juncture. Do I keep it for my November cohort? I am genuinely ambivalent. It's itchy. Poll below.

Prompt of the day: /retro read my last 10 coding agent sessions and find ways to make my repo easier to navigate. Find where agents take too long to find relevant information, or rely on out-of-date docs. Improving navigability is such an underrated way to save tokens.

A: an agent with access to a debuggable/clickable dev server B: one without I'd argue that the difference between A and B is bigger than most models Fix the environment your agent runs in

Started doing this. Very useful for when you're dictating out a bunch of stuff and you can only half-remember what you've said. I prefer a 5-word version: Restate my intent before continuing

mattpocock/skills prompt of the day: /codebase-design Take a look in the repo for shallow modules, applying the deletion test and look for candidates for deletion. Helps kill unnecessary abstractions.

Effect feels insanely good to use with agents: - Typed errors/dependencies power up your type checking - DI makes designing good codebases easy - Built-ins for EVERYTHING, no agent creativity required An outrageous advantage for any non-frontend TS code

Opus 5.5 has been building animatics for me - draft versions of videos I'm about to film. It walks through the actual lessons, creates stills of what it thinks the learner should see, and narrates them with TTS. (1/2)

Trying something new in my course creation process Animatics - AI-generated stills + speech (via TTS) that help me see what a video would look like once filmed I also get the agent to walk through the exercise as I would when I film it. (1/2)

This is really smart. There are definitely a set of rules that are too complex to lint deterministically that feel wasted on full-scale intelligence. - Using useEffect in sensible ways - Keeping good comments while killing bad ones QT: twitter.com/i/status/21038316535755…

Tons of folks ask me "how do I create a CODING_STANDARDS.md file?" My answer is that if you're using it right, it should only be empty for about 5 minutes. Every meaningful thing your agent gets wrong should be noted into CODING_STANDARDS. (1/2)

Thinking about making a skill called /fix-one-thing: "Read CODING_STANDARDS.md. Find a violation in the codebase, and fix it. Make the PR small and easy to review, with a small blast radius." Run it whenever you've got a spare moment, or once an hour on a schedule.

This is mostly correct, but it assumes that 'unit' means 'the smallest possible unit' Testing larger units has ALWAYS been a good practice - it makes your tests less sensitive to structural changes So not "dead in the water", just software fundamentals coming back around (1/2)
