Ah yes, in 1989 remembering at 1am I had an essay due the next day, made the whole thing up, went to library at 8am, added some plausible citations. Got the best mark of any essay I did. Not sure that says a lot about the judgement of my lecturer, but I could clearly bullshit effectively on my own.

Pension tax relief is not a subsidy, it is deferred tax. You pay tax when you take a pension, not when contributing to it. Otherwise a pension would just be a something like an ISA.

Nice review. Blade runner is possibly my favorite film of all time (directors cut). The book is also amazing, although if i had to choose which one to keep on a desert island, it would be the film. I like how you contrasted them - same territory but asking different questions.

Well i disagree on that too! Both can be simulated by a turing machine which is provably equivalent to any other classical computation mechanism. It is interesting that a neural network can be represented as a decision tree, but it says nothing about the limits of computability.

No, proving that a formalism cannot be complete is just an exercise in logical deduction, albeit a clever one. It is no different in principle to proving any other mathematical theorem. AI has been making huge strides in this recently, including solving some open Erdos problems.

I do not see where the incompleteness theorem has anything to say about the human mind or consciousness. It is a purely logical chain of reasoning that demonstrates there are unprovable statements in any formalism. A machine could derive the same idea.

Could you say which paper you are referring to? As far as i know, godel proved any formalism would contain unprovable statements (although maybe could be proved in a larger one - but that would also have unprovable statements). This is the incompleteness theory.

I don't see how that follows. Proving there are uncomputable statements doesn't seem to have anything to do with consciousness. Godel didn't compute them. Or are you saying Godel also wasn't conscious, or used something other than his biological neural net?
