I especially liked being able to recognise the location of the 'going for a walk' picture was. I recognised it as soon as I saw it. It's along the Rover Dove, facing south, and hasn't changed all that much.
Close up of a black and white picture of someone out for a walk. There is a (possibly) male figure with a waterproof coat on and a child (approx one year old, from the material I read) in a back pack for children (I forgot what they're called). The person is looking back toward the photographer.Screenshot from Google maps of the same location as the black and white picture. The caption says Eaton and Alsop, and it shows that it was taken by Kevin Hill and uploaded in April 2021.

I had a really enjoyable time looking at the John Dean a Semester in Nottingham, 1976 exhibition at the Bonnington Gallery (boningtongallery.co.uk/event/boning...) Lots of interesting and quite candid photos of Nottingham in '76, lovely. (I didn't take lots of pictures of the pictures, obviously.)
Three black and white photos, one shows the inside of a car with three people, one reading a map; one shows someone out for a walk alongside a river; one shows a land rover.

You can tell me that it's the Althorp Estate, but I know Kedleston Hall when I see it! (The Duchess, 2008)
A scene from The Duchess (2008), showing a lawn and some trees, with a manor house behind. There is a picnic on the lawn, a servant stands waiting, and several people in Georgian dress are standing talking. The legend reads "Althorp Estate, England April 1774". The house is _clearly_ Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire.

I use the PlantNet app a lot, for this is says its most likely "Little Robin" but could "Herb Robert". I think probably little robin, given the red leaf edges. But I've been calling this Herb Robert for ages now! I see it in my garden all over. 🙂
PlantNet app screenshot showing Little Rob as 64% likely

Some of the ideas about university finances and student intake seem fairly sensible here, but further down the article it mentions (effectively) grading on a curve, which I'm not in favour of at all.
"Hepi (Higher Education Policy Institute) also recommends standardising degree classifications, so all providers would be limited to awarding 15% of classifications as a first, 35% as a 2:1, and the same for 2:2s, and 15% for a third. I. 2023-4, 28.8% of graduates were awarded firsts."

Well, this is infuriating and saddening in equal measure. An AI cheating service (let's call it what it is) that states simply that learning is 'busywork' so you should automate it away...and that would be you 'acing' your degree... Why do I even bother?
Screenshot from an AI cheating service 'Einstein' with text that reads "Stop stressing. Start acing. Einstein does the busywork so you don't have to."

There were also significant drops at Goldsmiths, University of London (22%), Robert Gordon University (20%) and London South Bank University (18%).

Russell Group member Durham, York, Newcastle, Cardiff, Nottingham and Queen's University Belfast all recorded falling academic numbers.

Some more of the bulbs I planted last year are starting to bloom. The daffodils are already having a good time, noe the Muscari show their faces too.
A small plant, a cone of little purple flowers, is starting to grown in between taller green leaves. There are old brown leaves and twigs on the floor around the plants.

Given that I had ice on my car this morning, it's been a nice day for a little walk around campus. 🙂
A blue sky with a few fluffy clouds, the sun lens-flaring through. There are trees and bushes around a shallow lake, with birds stood on pipes (for a fountain) that are sticking out of the water. The lake is mostly still, with the sun reflected on the surface of the water.

Trig point, lens flare, signpost. (In case anyone needs a new password)
A smooth stone obelisk (a trig point) on top of a craggy rock covered on one side with ice, blown smooth in the wind.A collection very large rocks, piled precariously on top of each other. There is ice on the ground and on the rocks, it almost looks like the ice is holding one large rock in place, stopping it from falling to the ground. The sun peeps over the rocks, cheekily flaring the lens.A green sign on a post: "public footpath To Hayfield" (pointing left) "to Edale" (pointing right). I went left...that's where I'd parked my car. Oh, the sky is very blue, with little wisps of cloud. We're lower down now, so there is not snow or ice, the ground is grassy and there is a dry stone wall in shot.

Yesterday's walk up Kinder Scout was surprisingly icey, but gorgeous.
Kinder reservoir, with a bright but cloudy sky overhead. From the top of William's Clough (lunchtime) looking back down the hill at the reservoir in the distance. A paved path runs right to left, showing the next steps.A bright sun breaks through the clouds with some accidental, but aesthetically pleasing, lens flare. We're high up now, the reservoir is far away in the distance, there is ice on the rocky ground.Ice clings to the rocks on the ground, lit by a bright sun in a lightly clouded sky. 633 metres.

Nice day for a little wander around Kedleston Hall (and yes, there was a scone involved 😉 @nt-scones.bsky.social ) @nationaltrust.bsky.social
The back of Kedleston Hall, an 18th century country house, with windows, columns, and a double curved staircase. The sun is shining on most of the façade, and there are thin clouds in the sky.

Sometimes the walk along the river is nice, even if you do just end up at the bus stop.
A wide, still river with the low winter sun flaring through the camera lens. Trees and bushes line the riverbank.A boardwalk takes us under a low bridge, alongside the ricer. The low winter sun peaks below another bridge, ahead of us, and reflects off the still river water.

An upland portal? From a walk, three years ago today.
A grassy hilltop on Brant Fell. There are shrubs on the left and rocks on the right. In the distance is Lake Windermere. In the middle of the shot are two old gateposts, empty, without gate or fence or wall; a portal to another realm?

I'm reading the fourth Earthsea book, paused to check the Wikipedia article, and saw that Le Guin wrote two short stories about Earthsea before she wrote the first book, published in a collection called "The Wind's Twelve Quarters". And look what I found on my bookcase! 😊
