I join our Senator Chris Van Hollen in calling for urgent federal AI regulation. This technology is already enabling large-scale hacks, displacing workers, and creating viruses. But if Congress can’t act, our state needs to step up, just like IL, CA, & NY, and pass reasonable guardrails on AI.

The industry will challenge any piece of accountability legislation on the grounds of PLCCA, a federal law that shields the gun industry from civil liability. But this proposal isn’t to impose civil damages on companies. It’s a tax intended to recoup public costs, which PLCAA does not prohibit.
