It amazes me sometimes that, 242 episodes into this whole thing. how many stories we still haven't read. When Jason Todd tier backer Kyle Still came to me with his options for this week's episode, and one of them included the Batman and Robin tie-in to the Joker-centric event "Death of the Family" I realized that we had never actually done the main arc from Scott Snyder's run on…

Writer David Pepose returns to talk about the third and final chapter of his Kickstarter series The O.Z., plus, Space Ghost, Speed Racer and more.

OK, so normally I would have something pithy to say about suffering through Will just picking random stuff of dubious quality that isn't available on-line and Batman '66 trades, which I just did. But what I really want to focus on are the vagaries of fate and coincidence. As you'll hear if you just start this episode, we recorded this on March 18th.

Batman talks to Alan Scott about Vandal Savage. Savage talks to Mayor Ivy about stopping Batman. And Jack Dean shares insights with Huston Gray in Batman #8.

Love is in the air. It's nearly Valentine's Day, and for the past couple of his appearances, Patreon backer and friend of the show Josh Weil has mentioned that he's been considering selecting one of the few truly whimsical and just plane fun stories Tom King has written: "Date Night," where Batman an Catwoman go on a double date with Superman and Lois Lane.

Cartoonist Roger Langridge (Fred the Clown, Thor: The Mighty Avenger) joins the show to talk about his new Dynamite Comics series, The Muppets Noir.

Superheroes were an American invention, at least the modern conception of them. But they have spread across the world and taken on many forms. We've done an episode about Batman stories across the world before, but this weeks we're focusing specifically on Batman stories from Japan. We're reading the first collection of stories that spun out of the 60s…

The threads that have slowly been appearing start to tighten in Batman #6. Dr. Zeller’s secret is revealed. And a member of the Bat family says goodbye.

This week, BatChat is once more joined by Patreon backer and friend of the show Matt McThorn. This time, Matt wanted to talk about times Batman and his allies and enemies crossed over with properties from Dark Horse Comics. So we have Batman meeting Hellboy (and Starman, but that's less of a jump), The Joker trying on The Mask and the Justice League winding up on the farm that serves as the setting for Black Hammer.

Writer Fred Kennedy joins The ComicsXF Interview Podcast to talk about his new Mad Cave Studios series, The Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre.

Joe Pruett joins the show to talk about the return of his comics anthology Negative Burn, currently crowdfunding on Zoop.

The Ark M facility’s history is revealed in a dark tale of the history of the Arkhams and their connection to Jack Grimm.

This week, BatChat is returning to the three runs we've been following in order. Well, sorta. Yes, we're reading the next arc of No Man's Land and the penultimate arc of Grant Morrison's epic run. But Injustice has been showing signs of severely diminishing returns the past few volumes, and we had something else we've been wanting to get to, so we're subbing in "Knightquest: The Crusade," the adventures of Azrael as Batman.

The Creeper is a weird character. He's a guy with yellow skin, a green and black banana hammock, and a red fur boa. That's a heck of a look. He's also a good guy that most think is a bad guy. And sometimes he hangs out in Gotham City. That's a lot on a character who DC has tried to get over no less than four times with their own series that has never taken off.

Bruce Wayne’s date with Anna Zeller is interrupted by assassins trying to kill the doctor. Can Bruce get them out of this without revealing his other identity?

It's the start of a new year again, and so, as we do every year, it's time to look at some new visions of Batman in a handful of Elseworlds. We've got a pulpy adventure of Batman and Superman, the Bat-pirate Leatherwing sailing the seven seas and an issue of the Batman Chronicles anthology with a second tale of Leatherwing, a gumshoe Bruce Wayne investigating murders by a cat creature and an intellectual Batman who still has time to punch Nazis.

Tony Thornley, Dr. Anna Peppard and John Bush join Dan and Matt to talk about the best comics of 2025, along with picks for best writer, best artist, best publisher and hopes for 2026.

Happy holidays to all! As is our tradition, and as we aren't going to run out any time soon, the week of Christmas we read three stories of the holidays in Gotham. One is a little holiday kinda-noir from Bat legends Denny O'Neil and Frank Miller, one is a perplexing animated series style Brave and the Bold that might explain the intergalactic origins of Santa and the final is a mini-series where Batman teams up with one of the men who trained him: Kris Kringle himself.

You have entered the Batcave, and this week we're reading three stories featuring the first appearances of those three most famous Batcave trophies: the robotic T-Rex, …

A wounded Bat-Man investigates the forces of crime in Gotham, trying to get closer to the villains who are wreaking havoc on the city. Investigating the chaos is Lois Lane, and where Lois goes, are Clark Kent and a certain red-cape wearing hero far behind? The Bat-Man: Second Knight #2 is written by Dan Jurgens, drawn by Mike Perkins, colored by Mike Spicer and lettered by Simon Bowland.

In this corner, we have Gotham’s new Dark Knight, the Batman! And in this corner, we have the man who wants to break him, Bane! Only one is coming out of this fight on two legs. Absolute Batman #14 is written by Scott Snyder, drawn by Nick Dragotta, colored by Frank Martin and lettered by Clayton Cowles. For 14 issues, we have seen glimpses of him.

You can start out as a Robin, but eventually you have to grow up, right? Well, maybe not Tim Drake, who's Robin again, but there was a period where he wasn't. And Dick Grayson and Jason Todd have left the Robin identity behind long ago. This week, Sam Hopper joins us again to talk about stories featuring those three former Robins in their later identities.

Barbara Gordon was introduced to add some flair to the final season of Batman, to try to buoy the sagging ratings on the show. And while she didn't save that series, she has become the iconic Batgirl of the comics, a character who has had a long career in various identities. This week, friend of the show and Patreon backer John Wickham returns to talk about three different phases of Barbara's time as Batgirl.

The Gotham of the 1940s and its new hero, The Bat-Man, are facing new threats. A killer is leaving a trail of mutilated bodies, and a scared city, behind him. And another new foe is there, one who revels in fear. The Bat-Man: Second Knight #1 is written by Dan Jurgens, drawn by Mike Perkins, colored by Mike Spicer and lettered by Simon Bowland.

The final issue draws everything together. Batman faces the Child of Fire, and stands prepared to save Gotham from the storm that he has brought. Batman: Dark Patterns #12 is written by Dan Watters, drawn by Hayden Sherman, colored by Triona Farrell and lettered by Frank Cvetkovic. Will Nevin: And now, the end is near, and so we face the final curtain: Dan Watters and Hayden Sherman … my goodness.

While in comics circles the most well known alternate future for Batman is The Dark Knight Returns, in the public consciousness, that title has to be held by Batman Beyond. Three seasons of young Terry McGinnis and crotchety old Bruce Wayne in the DCAU, plus appearances on Justice League Unlimited, left a mark for this particular iteration of Batman.

Vandal Savage sets his anti-Batman crusade in motion, Bruce Wayne does his best as Bat-Dad, the Riddler strikes and a whole lot more happens.

This week, the BatChat podcast does another episode of stories featuring Thomas Blake, the villain known as Catman.

Kat Calamia and Phil Falco join the show to talk about Lifeline Comics and the business of that Kickstarter comics life.

For Halloween week, BatChat is dipping into a classic horror monster. Three stories of Batman under the full moon fighting werewolves.

Three new tales of the Batman of the Absolute Universe are featured in the first ever Absolute annual, by Daniel Warren Johnson et al.
