We made it. Most of the trip was hell, but today was okay. I can see the Atlantic from my living room which is awesome. Looking forward to Cuban coffee tomorrow. And internet.

I will miss this, but I console myself with the knowledge that I've seen fall in Maine six times, which is something I never thought would happen. I will carry those memories for ever.

Thought: when you say "after this, I swear we're never moving again," what you're actually saying is, "I intend to die in this house."

It's weird doing the monthly house maintenance chores and realizing I'll never have to do them again. I may never have to cut grass or rake leaves again in my life, since we're moving to an apartment and all that stuff is their job.

Yeah. It's me. I'm dead, but I can't prove it. Hang on... maybe there is a valid use case. I've been declared dead, but I'm not, so I need to produce the erroneous death certificate as evidence of the mistake. I mean... it could happen, right? And you've gotta design around the edge cases.

I will never be able to read all the books I would like to read. If I'm lucky, I'll manage somewhere between 3000-5000, but I'm not counting on it.

I always assumed this book was a Photoshop joke, like those fake Tintin covers and all the librarian books. But no, it's real, and it's making me laugh.

Anyone want to buy a house in Maine? Quiet, peaceful, surrounded by woods with a stunning view in fall, and spacious. 20 minutes from Augusta, easy drive to the coast, lakes, or mountains. www.zillow.com/homedetails/...

It really is getting to the point where we need to turn the Internet off and back on again. Actually… what if we didn’t turn it back on again…?

I always thought Gibraltar was the very southern tip of Spain, close to Morocco. But nope, that's Faro Isla de las Palomas.

Zuck's vision of AI is that it will eventually do everything for you, including reading, watching TV, listening to music, and your hobbies. So what exactly are humans supposed to do? Lie around in a coma? What's the point of being alive if all the things you actually enjoy are done by a machine?

I am so sick of people telling me that I can’t use em-dashes because they make me look like an AI. I’m looking forward to telling them that not using em-dashes now makes you look like an AI. Oh, and my overuse of commas is now a badge of pride.

This says a lot about how AI works. Students do better homework results when they have AI assistance, but they're not actually learning anything.

Describe your music taste in 3 artists, no genres. 1. Sibelius 2. Pink Floyd 3. Motörhead BTW, Sibelius looks far too much like Aleister Crowley for my liking. I may now be unable to get that image out of my head. (Also, when I first typed that sentence, I wrote "mage" instead of "image". Eeek!)

I think my favorite Beatles song has to be The Fool On The Hill. While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Let It Be and Yellow Submarine are all close contenders, but there's something about Fool that speaks to me.

I listen to a lot of electronic music. After close to 50 years, Jarre 's Equinoxe is still my favorite, especially when lying on the floor with a good set of headphones or speakers.

This bread came out really good. Tanzhong style Japanese bread cooked in mini loaf tins - they came out really soft and easy to pull apart. Will definitely be doing this again!

Remembering my former boss, Dr Tim King, who died last week. Tim's decision to hire me at Perihelion, despite my complete lack of experience with computers, changed my life, and then UK Online changed everything yet again. I wouldn't have had the life I've had without him.

He-Man, a-aah, Savior of the Universe! Campy, tongue in cheek 80s style science fantasy action with a Brian May soundtrack - it's basically Flash Gordon. (And, like Flash, based on a 40+ year old show.) Great film? No. Great fun? Yes.

I swear, the greatest thing about the modern world is running water - especially when you have hot AND cold. You can easily work around things like lights, cooking, heating, etc. But when you have to fetch all your water for drinking, washing, cooking & flushing by hand, that really sucks.

I don't think I've ever listened to Carole King before. Turns out I know a lot of her songs without realizing it. I have to admit, I'm listening to a bunch of soft rock this weekend (thanks to one of those AI slop listicles - yeah, I know, I know!) and really enjoying it.

Senior moment. Loading my pill dispenser for the week (yes, I've reached that age), and realized I'd put the morning pills in the evening slot & vice versa. Doesn't help that a) they have similar names and b) they both changed shape so the round ones are now oval & the oval ones are now round.

A morning of garden work, house chores and cooking. I've prepped breakfasts, lunches and desserts for the week, and baked myself a batch of Joe Froggers - traditional New England cookies loaded with spices and rum.

One of the most enjoyable parts of #modelmaking is finding accurate picture refs: an 1886 Benz engine showing which bits are copper, brass, & steel and which bits were painted - note things like the black bolts in the wooden sub-frame and the red *interior* of the drive belt wheel.
