@catominor.bsky.social great to see you active on here! Was thinking about you the other day - are you still using Roam? All your CSS tips and tricks helped get me interested in getting back into coding - much appreciated! What are your favorite note taking apps these days?

just a reminder that if you scapegoat the scapegoaters, they don't stop scapegoating, you just now have people who are actively scapegoating, who also don't listen to anything you say

Designing walkable cities increases social interaction and consequently may improve social support and social integration. Increase in social support and decrease in social isolation are good for public health.

"Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of those rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs". (NM) - RIP Robert Redford

🧵 1/n David Whyte is one of my favorite authors, an Anglo-Irish poet who straddles the boundary between poetry + prose. In his 2014 book "Consolations", he explores deeper meanings behind a series of 52 common words. Here is the intro to"Solace" (an appropriate choice, given his book's title)
book excerpt: SOLACE is the art of asking the beautiful question, of ourselves, of our world, or of one another, in fiercely difficult and un-beautiful moments. Solace is what we must look for when the mind cannot bear the pain, the loss or the suffering that eventually touches every life and every endeavour; when longing does not come to fruition in a form we can recognise; when people we know and love disappear; when hope must take a different form than the one we have shaped for it.
Solace is the spacious, imaginative home we make where disappointment goes to be welcomed and rehabilitated. When life does not in any way add up, we must turn to the part of us that has never wanted a life of simple calculation.
Solace is found in allowing the body's innate foundational wisdom to come to the fore, the part of us that already knows it is mortal and must take its leave like everything else, and leading us, when the mind cannot bear what it is seeing or hearing, to the birdsong in the tree above our heads, even as we are being told of a death, each note an essence of morning and of mourning, of the current of a life moving on, but somehow also, and most beautifully, carrying, bearing and even celebrating the life we have just lost - a life we could not see or appreciate until it was taken from us.

I read recently that kindness is the only virtue that can't be faked People pretend to be good in other ways all the time, when they're really not - But kindness is so evident that people instantly know if it's there or not

I expected to wake up exhausted, despondent. but I looked up and for the first time in my life I thought, "there's no one left to look to. it's just us." so I am shocked at how I feel: furious, clear-eyed, galvanized. we who saw this from the beginning, for better or worse, it's our time to lead.

do you ever stop what you are doing and give yourself a moment to appreciate how precious an opportunity, time is? having the time to choose to do something, the opportunity to follow through, enjoy it, and then come back to doing something else, before the day is over? pretty amazing, really

There needs to be a name for techno-optimism but predicated on wise context and community Like, tech tools are awesome ... But it's communities - and how communities choose to use those tools - that is the only real lasting basis for optimism (Not the tech itself, but the people it empowers)

Another really eye opening aspect of Silberman's meticulously researched "Neurotribes", is that he makes it devastatingly clear how often psychiatry and psychiatric opinion have been used as a cudgel to deprive people of their rights. It's ... infuriating, TBH.

Man, the book by Silberman, "Neurotribes", does a fantastic job of skewering the way academic psychiatry has always worked, without regressing into anti-science, in the process A gripping read about how progress in this field happens - (Slowly + obscured by everyone's need for fame or recognition)

one of the interesting things about being a therapist is that sometimes you offer a framing or an interpretation that you KNOW you've offered before; only somehow, this time, it actually "lands" + the person looks at you with that "aha" look and you KNOW something has changed ...
