If you live in Ward 10 in Kitchener I promise you the best representation you could ask for is voting @samnabi.bsky.social on your COK ballot and @mattjrodrigues.bsky.social on your regional council ballot. They get cities, they're passionate about them, and they are truly community oriented.

This is no accident. Sustained investment in our paramedic staff and infrastructure have reversed course on worrying trends. This is great news for our community!

I was happy Committee supported two additional motions on this issue to explore penalties & incentives for our next bus stop snow clearing contract + improve responsiveness to missed stops. It’s high time we expect the best possible service from our contractors.

Today, I supported learning more about the impacts of data centres in Waterloo Region. In fact, this analysis is already underway. That said, I still have serious concerns about future hyper scale facilities in our community, particularly in light of our current infrastructure constraints.

Today’s dangerously bad air quality does not impact everyone equally. It’s a reminder that as a Region we need to double down on our commitments to decarbonize, ending for-profit natural gas subsidies, commit to constructing more sustainable public buildings, and expanding electric transit options.

Today, I did not support the appeal of Justice Gibson's ruling on the 100 Victoria encampment for many reasons -- we know what we need to do to get on with Transit Hub construction, while also recognizing a place of last resort.

As we wrap up another vibrant Pride weekend in Waterloo Region, I’m reminded of the importance of continuing to gather, and allowing voices to be heard, openly. The unfortunate actions of one person last week haven’t overshadowed the strength of our community 🏳️‍🌈

Today, Committee received a Report that provided a stark outlook on our Development Charges collection. The current municipal funding framework is broken. And it’s time all communities get a new fiscal framework with the Province and Federal government.

It’s groups like the Friends of Lakeside Park — who sorted over 16,000 pieces of recycling in park waste bins last year, or CycleWR who advocate for safer routes to travel, or the folks at Pollinator Roadsides who plant pollinator gardens along Regional Roads, that embody Earth Day all year 🌎

Several of us on Council made attempts to get this project back on track. Costs sky rocketed since this was first approved. And a certain communications centre is now taking up our debt room. I’m optimistic about the next steps. We owe it to the community to get displaced residents home.

Charles Street Terminal is our opportunity to be bold. To do things differently, we must look at ways of retaining public ownership and set affordable & non-market housing targets. That’s why I was happy to have Committees support today in asking staff to come back with options to do just that.
