#comicsky Adrian Veidt creates the Alien Squid…an octopus type creature with several limbs. And what is this Squid meant to do? It is propaganda meant to unite the world against an outside force supposedly trying to destroy Earth’s way of life.
100
matthewlovesbread.bsky.social @matthewlovesbread.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
#comicsky This is the entire premise of the book. The rise of Hooded Justice would eventually lead to such escalation that a hero of the new generation would effectively use “Yellow Peril” propaganda…but on a cosmic scale.
110
matthewlovesbread.bsky.social @matthewlovesbread.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
#comicsky It is said that even after Yellow Peril propaganda largely stopped, comic books still kept the notion intact for a lot of villains. “Monsters, Aliens, Others”, looking to destroy your way of life.
100
matthewlovesbread.bsky.social @matthewlovesbread.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
#comicsky Yellow Peril propaganda was also found in COMIC BOOKS quite a bit. Look at any old comic from back then, and there’s a 50/50 shot that the villain is an Asian with monstrous looking facial features, messed up teeth, etc.
100
matthewlovesbread.bsky.social @matthewlovesbread.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
#comicsky If you don’t know, the Peril was propaganda aimed at western countries trying to convince them that Asians were “monsters, aliens, others”, that were trying to actively destroy your entire way of life. It was meant to unite the people against this outside force coming for all of them.

#comicsky Here’s another image of the yellow octopus creature on the cover of a book that came out about 10 years (?) back. This image is a redrawing of the popular John Bull strip.

matthewlovesbread.bsky.social @matthewlovesbread.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
#comicsky Yellow Peril. The image on your right was a classic example of Yellow Peril propaganda, a popular John Bull ‘comic strip’ in the UK that I guarantee Alan Moore saw at least once in his life. Note the eyes, nose, and smile on both creatures are the same.

#comicsky This image is the cover of Watchmen issue 1 when mirrored on to itself symmetrically. What you see is a nightmarish Klansmen, in Hooded Justice’s colors, rising above what looks to be a rendition of the racially charged “Yellow Peril” propaganda found in western countries circa 1880-1940

#comicsky What is going on down here? This man is pulling her hair back and choking her on the bottom corner of Watchmen issue 12 page 1. What was happening when Adrian Veidt’s squid landed? Were they doing some sort of public display of bdsm or was he actively trying to murder this woman?
