I believe in science and philosophy and logic and believe SW is work. Fuck you if you don’t accept people as they present. Fuck off if you are a republican or centrist both sider.

Yes. 50+ people should be held culpable

Yes it is.

The disgust about people picnicking and celebrating lynchings never stopped the lynchings, they just moved them indoors. If they are exposed to the light of day again then maybe…

I am in favor of this. I believe we should stop pretending the death sentence is some sanitized medical procedure hidden behind closed doors and go back to chopping off heads in the public square to expose the absolute barbarity of it.

Also Popper, Hume, et al. for critical thinking.

“I don’t know what colors mean”. Instead it churns the tokens and comes up with an answer based on what it calculates the reply you want is. I’m other words it is neither reasoning or mimicry. It is how the engine is coded

This is what concerns me about AI boosters. They see it as a simplistic dichotomy, mimicry or reasoning? It is neither. My favorite example is a prompt like “what is your favorite color?”. The mimic result would be the most popular color. The reasoning result would be

Huh. Fake a warning, have a cement truck on standby. Half the world’s problems solved.

True 😂

And a prompt to an AI is just a set of tokens that get squished into a set of statistical probabilities. Bottom line is that it is taking a guess at what you are instructing it to do.

The question any decent tech writer/reporter should be asking is “how many novel vulnerabilities has your tool found?”. It is the only statistic that would make this anything other than overblown hype.

Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Tl;dr ignore the anthropomorphising and the article boils down to “they taught this tool to hack and it succeeded”…under very badly designed test conditions.

Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Analysts have been warning about these vulnerabilities for decades. The only novel thing going on here is that Open AI is good at manipulating the media and managed to get more attention to the problem (and hype for their tool) than the aforementioned analysts ever managed to.

Should we be worried? Yes, but no more than we should have been before about aging infrastructure full of unpatched vulnerabilities and the continued roll out of internet connected devices that age out of maintenance.

Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Counterpoint: this is just another case of AI psychosis. Note how he says “I know we shouldn’t anthropomorphise…but”. What follows is just more of the same. No it did not go rogue. It is a tool that they taught to hack and (surprise!) it hacked.

Yeah but people die in Texas when it gets cold. It isn’t just an AC problem it is a design problem.
010
Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
The materials are thin and do not retain heat. The cost of adapting older homes in both the traditionally cooler and traditionally hotter climes to the new norms is the sticking point. Try making the argument that Texans need to adapt all their buildings and codes to see what pushback you get. /fin

Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
For forced air. Take Texas as a counter example. Not so long ago hundreds of people died in a prolonged cold spell here. The grid failed due to excessive demand because houses are built to not retain heat. They are oriented away from the sun. They have overhangs to shade them /3

Mattie b @matthewjb.bsky.social · 26/06/2026
Heat pumps are now common(and subsidized) in Europe but only for heating. Traditional housing design simply cannot be easily retrofitted for cooling. The materials are wrong (heat retaining), orientation is wrong, walls are solid and cannot be retrofitted with duct work /2

I am skeptical about this. There very much is a view that Americans are profligate wasters of energy in Europe (I grew up there) and in large part it is correct. Larger homes, no public transport, larger vehicles, large appliances etc. Where I question it is AC 1/

We are witnessing the pundits and consultants who have destroyed the Democratic Party lose their shit about a joyful movement that proves all their bullshit to be what it always was.

The thing is Joe, nobody knows where APAICs money comes from. Not even you can say for sure. That is how dark money works. The rest of us just make judgements on what they lobby for which seems to be just more bombs.

Bug hunting with opus: Me: long explanation of the environment, the functions called and symptoms. Claude: this is the most likely problem in the code. Me: that is not in the code path C: good information that clarifies a lot. Here is the most likely problem. Me: that’s not… Repeat…

Indeed, the phalanx of coders with a one week course in COBOL sent in by the likes of Perot Systems resulted in some interesting code.

It was a minor, though pervasive, problem that was massively overblown because it was easy for consultants to explain to non-techies. It was a boondoggle for those consulting companies. Those of us fixing the code considered it a joke.

For my entire lifetime, and I am not young, there has been a western propaganda wall protecting Israel from any consequences of their treatment of Palestinians. Your argument just amounts to “fuck, they shouldn’t have seen that”. You don’t even attempt to argue Israel’s actions were just.
