I am deeply excited about the Monkees being on Prime, which for my money is a wonderfully absurdist comedy that is basically a live action Hanna Barbara cartoon. Paired with afternoon reruns of Batman, my sense of humor owes it a heavy debt.

Saw the 4K final cut of Manhunter last night. It's time we talk about Michael Mann's terrible needledrops. Red 7's "Heartbeat" (which closes the movie) is an 80's abomination that we all pretend isn't happening because we were enjoying the movie up until then.

Getting a major edit on a manuscript from your publisher is equal parts, "how dare you!" and "they have a point." I've found the mature response is to pout like an infant over the weekend before getting down to work on Monday. By then, "they have a point" has had a chance to talk some sense to me.

What is honesty so crazy to me is people's performative shock at a cultural distraction playbook that has been in operation our entire lives.
