Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 12/05/2025This is a good analogy for AI. But it also describes humans. We learn from those we meet, by the way their faces look and the questions they ask. We grow by meeting these strangers & sometimes we mimic them, deliberately or not. We are monsters in the forest, hungry for conversation and learning. 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 21/04/2025Pope Francis reminded the world that Jesus spoke for mercy while many modern Christian leaders call for cruelty And Francis evoked the Church’s neglected tradition of science. His speeches on the harm done by climate change show data analysis as well as moral clarity. May his memory be a blessing 020
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 26/03/2025I saw this cool-looking plant growing in my backyard, and the three-fold symmetry is intriguing. I think it’s a red trillium? 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 23/03/2025I should look to see whether there were similar memes at the last turn of the century. Darn flappers. 010
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 12/03/2025It kept excess fuel from flooding the engine when the carburetor float valve malfunctioned in negative G maneuvers :) 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 10/03/2025News hypes research that looks iffy in a peer-reviewed paper. And I’ve fumbled first attempts to test theories in the lab, before the experimental procedure is nailed down. And often the true scientific answer is there’s not enough clear data, we need more for a solid conclusion. Such is life. 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 06/03/2025I saw this at a local Tesla charging station :) 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 04/03/2025Modern capitalism is unstable. The rich use laws and social norms to squeeze money from those who have less. With enough money, they bust unions and buy politicians. People spend more and more of their lives working to satisfy the desires of rich oligarchs. We must find a different path. 010
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 26/02/2025I like the idea of using the thermal mass and surface area of the stones to condense dew in arid areas. 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 26/02/2025Corporations are complex tools used by rich people to extract money from poor people. A better country would outlaw them like slave contracts or debtors’ prisons. 010
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 25/02/2025I want to think about the geometry of weaving. Normally we use 90-degree warp and weft, but it doesn’t have to be that way. I wonder if there are advantages in texture or strength to other geometries. Certainly there are examples (knitting, crochet, macrame). 011
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 17/02/2025This makes a lot of sense to me. Trump and Musk aren’t trying to build a thousand-year reich. They don’t have the patience for that. They’re grabbing everything they can steal, and burning the rest as a distraction for their supporters who like to watch things (and books and people) burn. 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 13/02/2025Nexus-6 muppets were designed with a four year lifespan. 011
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 12/02/2025This is just to say Google is erasing reviews about the Gulf of Mexico. Trump’s pet corporations are devouring evidence of basic facts which you were probably saving for humanity. Forgive them not. Valuing wealth and power over truth is cruel, and cold. 000
Matthew Abrams @matthewabrams.bsky.social · 11/02/2025I saw “Gulf of America” on Google Maps. Trump wants Greenland, Gaza & the Gulf. Like Putin & Xi he thinks grabbing makes him look strong And it shows Google will alter data for him. If he says women must use their husband’s name, or a hurricane must follow his magic marker, Google will make it so. 050
