Happy Confederate Surrender Day to all who celebrate. The Union Forever!

Headline of the Albany Journal, April 10, 1865: "GENERAL LEE AND HIS ARMY HAVE SURRENDERED! SLAVERY AND TREASON BURIED IN THE SAME GRAVE!" The headline frames a sketch of a bald eagle, its wings spread triumphantly, while grasped in its beak is a banner reading "Liberty & Union Forever! America, By the Grace of God, Free and Independent". Running perpendicular to the page on the left and right are secondary headlines: "DAWNING OF THE DAY OF PEACE." and "ALL HONOR TO THE GALLANT BRAVE."
