Well the wait for the 1st UK/ROI Nutcracker of 2026 goes on & on whilst Europe is weighed down by them. In the meantime, here's some prime 1968 archive. The diary notes are Richard Richardson's + a short BB piece. The photo is by @yarmouthbirder.bsky.social 👍 #norfolkbirding #rarebirdsuk See ALT

2nd visit to Freiston Shore in 2 days this morning… Upon arrival, I realised I had left my camera on all night and the battery was dead. Nice one. But - this IS a Brambling! 279 of year. Pinkies over, lots of waders, Cetti’s calling. #lincsbirding #birds #ukbirding #birdsseenin2026 #phonefootage

Heard a strange croaking noise in the garden earlier today, so turned on Merlin… Raven?? Alas, not.. It was the water pump that had ran out of water. #waterpump #merlin #nobirds #ukpumping #notbirding #waterpumpsseenin2026 #nonraven

Marsh Tit is going the way of Willow Tit. With very little mention. #ukbirding 🤔

A hard bird to see in Lincs now & obviously Willow is gone. I was reading up on it - it has an unusually large hippocampus for it’s size - bigger than a Great Tit - which gives it exceptional spatial awareness that allows it to remember thousands of locations for seeds / berries. Incredible.

45mins in a Lincs wood this AM was more enjoyable than a few of my recent birding trips.. Treecreeper, Nuthatch, GSW and finally Marsh Tit! A joy to see this declining bird in my county. #ukbirding #birds #lincsbirding #marshtit #birdsseenin2026 Lincs #224.

The question says more about the asker. What is the worth of anything, then? Everything is worthless/worthwhile. Enjoying a hobby during the flicker of life on earth you have sounds good to me.

I wouldn’t go on X just on principle and I have no idea about accounts with numbers like that.. I only read yours & Kyle’s blog on here. Of course people can’t be bothered reading full stop nowadays..

The theory was that to see a Dartford Warbler here - in a thicket of buckthorn, off the saltmarsh at Rimac, on the Lincs coast - was highly unlikely.. I tested this theory today and am happy confirm it is in fact, true. #lincsdipping #ukbirding #birds #lincsbirding

Grey Phalarope is a Manchester mega... unless it's in Lancashire. A blog about the Danelaw, local patching, being even more Coot-like than Red-necked Phalarope, and rare birds on boundaries. #UKbirding #birds

Grey Phalarope (just) in the Danelaw, I mean, Greater Manchester
Worthington Lakes is a set of reservoirs on the very boundary between Greater Manchester and Lancashire.  There will be grumbles about this,...

Fantastic and informative read Carl, I love a Grey Phal (still not seen one this year). The origins of the names are fascinating.. I occasionally look up “Wilson” or “Baird” etc to find out who these guys are.

Excellent, thanks! I was walking away. .. I still need Merlin for the year, I find it a difficult bird to catch up with, you deserve it with that amount of effort. I’m the one who said Are you Dawn? by the way. Seen you in Norfolk a few times too.

I missed the Pec Sand (twice) & showy Wryneck at Freiston, then the Buff-breasted Sandpiper at Frampton on Thu eve.. but managed to level the score on that today. Very windy conditions, but a beautiful bird indeed. Year #274. #lincsbirding #ukbirding #birding #birdsseenin2026 #buffbreastedsandpiper
