Shout out for GeoGebra, which does give you the choice! Maybe thanks to @mikegeogebra.bsky.social who's an English maths teacher.

I still have the digital folders for all my OFSTED lessons - it was a bit like PGCE, with full lesson plans for every lesson 'just in case', all resources etc, like interview lessons. But that was all before 2015 - I somehow managed to avoid OFSTED after that.

This is for England. Scotland counts as a different country for PISA. (Not sure offhand about Wales & NI)

Are they coming from a uni PGCE course? At KCL the use of AI is discussed, urging caution, but not banned. Unlikely that my sessions will include more than a passing reference - I'm too sceptical.

I'm sure I wrote this! Sounds so familiar - and I haven't taught in school for 5 years now!

Almost used that with my PGCE students today (reasoning and proof) but used some GAIM investigations instead.

I love this - however half a class of AL Further Mathematicians walked out on me once after I tried to get them to do this with exam questions; they insisted they just wanted to do past papers! Those who stayed generally did better in the exams ...

Id love to have access to these again - but I'm retired! Great support for AL FM. Do pass details on to those still at the maths 'chalk face'!

In a little museum in Aguïmes, Gran Canaria and spotted some images of measurement from some centuries ago.

Grateful for my insomnia (it's 5am in the UK) and also for a west facing bedroom window in a relatively low light area. It's awesome!

I would love to have visited Mathemalchemy (mathemalchemy.org) IRL. But Papert's Mindstorms inspired me as I started on my Maths Ed journey nearly 40 years ago, and I am thrilled to have been able to talk with Cynthia Solomon, who was alongside him in the early days of LOGO.

The Textile Museum in Tilburg (Netherlands) would be right up your street. A vast display of looms, including some from Manchester, which is where my grandparents worked in the cotton mills, and Jacquard looms. And so much more! textielmuseum.nl/en

If you're asking about parallel lines and angles, used them and Pythagoras to prove that our garden room would not fit on the imperfect 'rectangular' base done by some cowboy builders. Lost money, as we had to get it redone.

Ditto (TOA) to calculate the pitch of my roof. Got a new roof paid for by the surveyors who failed to spot that it was leaking because a low pitch needs special tiles, specially laid!

But it's much nicer to decorate your own bobbins with beads! I come from Bedford, and my sister used to make Bedfordshire lace. The WIP was as attractive as the finished object!

Prior to that, at SFC, in general one teacher per class, but some split to suit timetabling needs. Get to know classes well, but tough if there are teacher/student personality clashes. With split classes, can pair experienced and less experienced teachers.

My last school, before retirement, split between 2 teachers, pure + mech, pure + stats. Sandwiched applic. between pure, so final pure topics were shared flexibly as necessary. Always things like bank holiday Mondays affecting no. of lessons for each teacher. 1/2

*Correction - I did my ALs in 1974, but also OL German, in which I got a Grade 2. The Internet states all OLs were given letter grades from 1975 onwards. Feel free to argue with AQA.
000
mathsteacherkyp.bsky.social @mathsteacherkyp.bsky.social · 09/07/2026
Unless they changed the grading system the year after I took my Cambridge exam board OLs, they were graded 1 (top) to 9. (I am 70 and did my OLs in 1974.) So you could get a grade 5/6, albeit not GCSE.
